I've yet to see one...and my job is to basically be on the internet all day...simply have never seen one, not even on page 10 of results.
Sorry to say they are very rare to see ranked in the top 10, but Im sure with dedicated SEO and a relatively barren niche you could get it done.
Like most people, I don't usually look at the extension of a domain in the SERP's so I can't be sure how often they come up. But anyway.. I just tried a few searches and found a couple. Search term = Bob Parsons .ME at #1 Search term = Notify .ME at #6 Search term = Tattoo Tatau .ME at #6 (can't get the .net version on the first page.) Search term = MyEducation .ME at #9 The MyEducation one could do a lot better with some basic SEO. EG: Change the title tag of the homepage from "HOME" to "My Education" Cheers James
What are they ranking for? The BobParsons one doesn't surprise me, with his backlink directly from Godaddy.com
Not sure what they are ranking for, I was just trying to show that .ME's are ranking. In the case of notify.me, it ranks #6 out of 116,000,000 results for the search term notify. With 22,000 global searches per month for that exact term, I would consider that a great achievement for any site, regardless of the domains extension. Interesting that BobParsons.me is also #1 for the search term 16 Rules Going by Google adwords keyword tool, that gets him around 22 visits per month Cheers James
It's nice to see a few examples of .Me's ranking, but I'm going to wait for a while before I invest heavily in SEO'ing a .ME name - seems like a bit of an uphill battle.
The biggest problem with SEOing .ME domains is that they are GEO targeted for Montenegro and Google still won't let you change the GEO target in Webmaster Tools, even though the .ME extension was supposedly released (or at least marketed) as a global extension.
Wow, really? That does suck...I asked that question on Google's forums, and someone told me that you can remove the geotargeting from .me's.
As far as I know, having a website geo targeted in webmaster tools to a specific region, can give you a slight boost in the local search listing when someone searches in that region... It does not mean you won't rank as well or will rank less in other regions. Google will give you the most relevant results for a query, regardless of the extension of the domain or where you search from. Search for the wallabies in Google.com, and the wallabies in Google.co.jp and the most relevant result is number 1. (a .com.au) So I don't think it is too much of a disadvantage. .ME domains should be as easy to rank as any other domain. Sharing my opinion Cheers James
This is good news to read! I have been wondering how the .me's would rank in the search engines. This is encouraging . . .
Yeah it's not a huge issue, but it's still an issue - I've seen it make a notable difference between Google.com and country-specific Google searches. There are other GEO factors, such as your server's location and particularly inbound links, but it would be nice if Google allowed users to GEO target .ME domains towards other countries, since the extension has been marketed globally.
I noticed a question posted for Matt Cutts video questions at Google moderator asking why a ccTLD like .co.uk could not be changed to target a different region in WMT's and also why .ME's GEO targeting can not be changed even though they were marketed as a global extension.. (Was that you?) If that question gets enough votes, he may just answer it in the next round of Google webmaster help videos. So go on folks.. vote it up Cheers James
Article is really gr8 but i tell u what that people are just addicted to .com craze so that's why i still prefer .com
Happy anniversary to all .me owners. Good news for .me : http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=1424913 Regards, ASHISH THAKKAR
