This could possibly be part of the same issue!

Showing a description/title that are months old sounds like a cache issue to me.

The site reverted a few hours ago (the cache now shows 17th)

Another site is ranking badly across the board, though it has held its rankings for years (i have it tracked since oct 2003 on the kwt). The cache shows up as 14th

    Design Agent,

Thanks for tracking this information and contributing.

I have had no luck with getting folks to monitor this stuff.

This article may help explain the theory that I am supporting :).

If that theory is correct, absolutely every site I have and consult on will drop like rocks in the serps.

    We'll see...

    Caryl

PS - Personally, I believe Google is solely responsible for the exponential growth of the internet.

When their Florida Update turned the focus from on-page optimization to off page optimization (links) folks scrambled to build websites just to gennerate links!

IF the theory you are referring to is correct - expect to see the internet explode exponentially once again. IMHO

But they wouldn't drop for long Caryl.
Building a new type of link page which gives a link per page in a sort of article wouldn't exactly be difficult now would it, and if that theory was correct then everyone would build this type of linkpage f'in quickly.

We all have theories and beliefs we share, the simple fact is this is a game of cat and mouse ;).

After reading threads like this one you will certainly have enough ammo to make an educated choice on what you elect to believe in!

    Caryl, Bob and others...thank you!

    Cache Date: Oct 18, 2005 19:48:02 GMT

The cache date was updated again yesterday. What I find curious is the yesterday's cache date!

When Google just does a "regular" cache update it is usually reported as the previous date to the current date. Like the results for today.

BUT Yesterday's reported cache date was for Oct 15, 2005 02:51:26 GMT. You would normally see that reported on Oct 16th. October 16th was still "stuck" on the old Oct 4, 2005 13:31:07 GMT cache date.

This is what make me feel that the reported Oct 15, 2005 02:51:26 GMT cache date was not the same "type" of cached data.

    Heres a look...

I just read the vast majority of this thread over the course of this day... my brain hurts - a lot.

At first it seemed like I was really learning something and very specific ideas were forming in my head. As time went on they started to dissolve though.

With the recent G update now, it is like whatever little pieces of firm thought left in the melted ooze just got blown up.

But seriously, thanks to everyone who contributed to this thread. It is quite a journey.

Hi I'm back again guys :)

Well, this update hit me, like others, at the weekend, and, just like this page, I lost heavily across the allins, as well as the serps.

So when I looked at the post above by Caryl I could not quite understand why the movement down was across all three factors evenly just as it was/is with all mine.

It does not seem logical, for example, that the allinurl can fall equally as the allintitle or the allintext as it is judged by a different set of rules....or is it? ;)

    Hmmmmmm

Like always it will be a waiting game to see the longer term effects

Wow! We jumped up a whole position today. At that rate we will be back in first place in just a couple of years:p

Now I'm sure that if we comb the forums and SEO blogs we can probably fine a theory that will explain exactly why we improved one place today. After all Google is all knowing and all wise. This couldn't possibly be random or a sign that they are broken.

Broken or fixed, they're still serving up results everyday at astonishing rates. So I can not ever see the theory of broken being reality, unless they are offline...messed up, retarded, insane I may agree with :D. But never broken, the daily revenue they generate is beyond what most of us see in a lifetime with or without my site in the top of serps.

is the keyword tool acting funky today? I'm getting the site in question...a ranking of 100 or 200 or 300 with bls, pr, etc. but no ranking for the top ten.

YES, the McDar Tools were having problems but I just now have them resolved.

Try closing your window and opening the tool in a new window.

    Homer,

The McDar tools were serving up results today as well - the wrong ones! Just because results were being returned, did NOT mean the tools were functioning properly.

It took me nearly 4 hours to find the offending piece of code!

This can often happen with upgrades. The site was uploaded to a new server with a newer version of server software. The new software didn't like the old code!

There is no way on Gods green earth that Google migrates/upgrades and does not run into incompatibilities.

BTW - No one who contacted me today regarding the tools used words such as "offline...messed up, retarded, or insane". They all reported the tools were broken. ;)
