Have only started to do my research. One theory on why this site periodically jumps around for the keyword phrase:

Some google engineers jerk this site around to agitate DP members.

What has changed since the comparison on Sept 12th?

Seven out of the top 11 had changes in their allinanchor ranking.

All but one experienced changes in the number of pages reported by Google.



I would say that Google is-a-tweeking...

From your last chart above Caryl, it's tough to see why the page isn't in second or third place. However maybe tomorrow it will be. Strange stuff this Google.

It would have been interesting to know - Did Google update every day but always 3.5 days behind OR did Google only update the cache of the pages every 3.5 days?

As you know, I have been reporting the last Cached Date of the experiment page since last February. Google goes through periods of updating every day and then into periods of using an old cached page for a week or 10 days. This has been a regular pattern.

We also know that pages with higher PR get spidered more frequently.

I can see a few "problems" with this study.
-----------------------------------------------

1.) It was performed from February 15th to March 28th 2005.

Here is a peek at what was going on with Google at the time -

Here is what the things looked like for the experiemnt page in that same timeframe.


2.) It was performed on only German websites.

3.) They do not indicate if pages were manually or dynamically updated.

But the real question is why? Not only why does it rebound, but also why does it fall.

Maybe Google should consider changing their name to Yo-yo. But I guess not, probably too close to Yahoo.

 

I would guess it's due to changes on other sites/pages within Google's index that are competing/ranking for the same term.

 

here is one that I do for "modular homes" that beats me why it goes "mental"

Yesterday nowhere - today 39!! and the trend is slowly but surely upward so eventually it will get to be near the top

allinurl #94 [this has only just arrived at 94 with this current update giving credence to my belief that allinurl is very important and as is shown in this case is "holding back" the "real" position

 

Just another atta-boy for 'ya - I remember looking at this tool a little while back and yea, it takes a little bit of time to understand it - maybe add a link/explanation to explain AllInAnchor - note that Google no longer shows it on their "operators" page and you MUST lower-case it.

But definately provides some insights into the Google "secret sauce" and further reinforces the importance of anchor text.

Thanx again for sharing and thanx for joining this forum - Shawn has done an amazing job with his tools and hopefully the signal-noise ratio will stay decent in this forum and the trolls will stay away.

So for clarification purposes on the all ins...

Allinanchor = The ranking based on the amount of times a KW shows up in anchor text on a link. (Pretty much knew this already)
Allintitle = The ranking based on the amount of times a KW shows up in the title of a particular domain?
Allintext = The ranking based on the amount of times a KW shows up in text?
Allinurl = The ranking based on the amount of times a KW shows up in a url?

Allinanchor I pretty much knew, but the other allin searches haven't quite made a whole lot of sense, so some clarification would be ideal.
