Actually, July (especially the first two weeks) is the second slowest month of the year for selling camping equipment. January being the slowest month.

Traffic and sales come to almost a stand still. This was even the case when we sold our equipment on ebay! It is quit a strange phenomenon. BUT, when you think about it - a lot of people take vacations in July.

I find that is also the case with my pharmacy websites. My sales are down about 1/3 for the month of July. So I said to hell with it and am writing this email from beautiful Costa Rica. Beautiful country, beautiful women and cheap beer. I think I'll move.

Are there any bl changes being done to the page, any additions of anchor text bls? When did the last changes occur?

BTW, noticed today, that Y had the page 11 for sleeping bags and MSN had the page 6 next to the home page. Any significant serps dancing for those SE's while we were all following google? (MSN wouldn't count till this year)

Something might be brewing at Google.

The one curious indicator is that the allinanchor ranking of this experiment page is jumping around.

Allinanchor tends to remain stable even while regular rankings may show huge increases or decreases.

Here are the numbers for the last ten days...



We have made no changes to this page other than updating the time stamp and meta date.

Most of the following comments in this post have zero to do with this thread. The last sentence is VERY GERMANE!!

Noticed on 8/1/05 that Yahoo made changes in its algo and serps. Many webmasters commented on this also.

Today I noticed that Y is currently reporting about 4 times the number of bls that it was reporting for my site in the past. Y and MSN were reporting virtually similar numbers. Similarly Y dramatically increased reported bls for many of my competitors.

The next sentence is germane to this thread!

COULD YAHOO BE PERFUCKED!!

Dave,

This experiment page (as well as many other pages of mine) have held #1 positions on Yahoo.

HOWEVER, Yahoo yields a mere fraction of the traffic that Google does. It is for that reason I have not bothered to take the time to extensively record Yahoo results.

So, I can't really comment on this.

I have occasionally pondered that there must be a certain demographics for Yahoo searchers because Yahoo is very productive for some categories. This was also the case for Yahoo Auctions. (Camping was not one of them)

Caryl,

I've been monitoring the test page and got to thinking that since the allinanchor isn't coorelating to the placement in the SERPS there has to be something on page that is causing a problem of some sort.

Here's what I've noticed:

• Ledge River -20°F Sleeping Bag doesn't have a consistent linking scheme like the others (the sleeping bag part of the item description doesn't get linked)
• The links for flawebworks and omniknow in the footer aren't prefixed by www. (this shouldn't be an issue, and frankly could be by design if that's how fla and owlcroft would like to be linked to)
• The hammocks link looks like its domain expired and was picked up by one of those search spam pages that buys expired domains and puts some template page up.
• The sleepingbagsandtents link opens up in the main scrollable frame instead of opening up a new page.

That's just what I've noticed on the surface. Most of it may not matter, however I think removing the link to the hammocks page would at least be the best idea to start with.
