    i don't think there's a maximum length...

you you ever seen a url that looks like this:

    www (dot) google (dot) com/analytics/reporting/browser_version_detail?id=4050360&pdr=20080119-20080218&cmp=average&d1=Internet%20Explorer&d2=7.0&tab=0&view=1&tchcol=0

that's a google URL - it seems like it's fine.

I don't know if that's the same though, this url is a script-generated url... not sure if they're treated the same way.

I'm not an "expert" on this, but I would confidently say the one in the example is fine for SEO. I did read something about Google not liking URLs with too many parameters though.

Long enough that it doesn't start to look spammy and/or like a paragraph :)

I think that the example URL you've posted should be okay - but I do agree that if it gets much longer, it can look spammy. There shouldn't be any reason to have a URL any longer than that.

I believe a max of 5 keywords would do the trick..
    anything after that = spam
