I'm very unhappy about those referrals, they have a long way to go before they become interesting to me. Lots of spelling mistakes, low payings, etc. This is not serious..

Yeah you could get large amounts with refs 2.0, but the conversion rate is like 1/500 lol.

Well lets assume that the CTR on your website is 12%. If you have 500 visitors, than 60 people click on your Adsense ads. IF you earn $0.2= 20 cents per click, than those 60 clicks make you $12. Now lets assume you use a referral ad, that pays $30/sign up, purchase or lead and your conversion rate is 1/500...that means you made much more with the referral ad than with the regular Adsense ads.

The problem with the referrals that pay more is they are generally much harder to get conversions.

Sorry I was being a little closed minded....I earn 50 cents to a dollar per click.

I tried to use those referrals but there were VERY poor results, so that I gave up on them. This referral system needs some time till it can really be useful.

It means that for every 500 people that click on an ad, one "converts" by taking the required action like buying something, signing up for a newsletter, etc.

on 500 persons who click on the referral ad or on 500 visitors of the page holding the referral ad? Because it is not the same at all!
if the conversion is 1/500 persons who click on the ad, if they want to beat PPC they'll have to give a big commission!!!

I've always taken conversion rate to mean people who click, not impressions.

Here is Google's definition of "Conversion rate" from AdWords help:

So if we take the case of JeremiaSK8 it's a little bit different:
If you have 500 clicks at $0.2 per click you earn 100$
and only $30 for one signup

If only that was true.. they now give $5 per sign up (before it was nothing) but they'll give you the $250 if the new adsense publisher earns $100 in a few months. But most new users will not make it.
