Example of my ads, "Microsoft keyboards " (Ad Group) under it are "Microsoft Wireless keywords" (Text Ad) , Wired Keyboards and so on (SKU level). At the end i got several SKU Level Ads with around 100 keywords. These keywords are [Exact Match] keywords. Any one expert please advise on number of keywords i can use. Other option i have is making "Microsoft Wireless Keyboard" as the ad group itself and limiting the number of keywords under it. This will create huge number of adwords. Thanks
I would suggest that you seriously consider how many keywords you actually need in each group. It's a very common mistake to believe that an Adwords campaign should contain all the keywords under the sun and the practice usually leads to low group CTRs, higher costs and campaigns that are difficult to manage. In your particular example, if you're selling 'microsoft wireless keyboards' you may well find that that single keyword/phrase is enough to use up a decent daily budget and drive a great many customers to your site. Adding another 199 or 1999 keywords may not bring in any decent percentage more visitors but could ruin your account stats and cause you to pay over the odds. Jon
I agree with Cobnut. I'd be looking to split the keywords up into smaller, tighter ad groups. It is more work but the results will probably be better.
I recommend that you keep your Ad Groups as tight as possible. Otherwise, if one keyword performs poorly in your Ad Group, it will bring down the quality score of all the keywords in the Ad Group. What I usually do is stick 30 Keywords in one Ad Group for about 1-2 days. Then the keywords that are performing well I would put them into their own Ad Group's separately.
2,000 is the max and in all my time in PPC I've yet to see a campaign where that setup would be optimal. As others have suggested, tight ad groups with related keywords is the way to go. I go as far as one keyword per ad group when volume and/or costs justify it. Generally speaking, the more granular you can get with AdWords the better you will do.

Well that is telling you that your AD will be shown once someone searches for that keyword. Though the keyword is barely ever searched.
I tend to try and not clutter up accounts with thousands of zero impression keywords. There is an account level quality score/historical performance monitoring and while this may not hurt it, it surely won't help it either. An alternate method - which is far easier to manage - would be to use a few broad match keywords and then build out your exact match keywords from the results of those broad matched terms. So instead of a keyword list like this: [blue widget pieces] [blue widgets for sale] [make a blue widget] [bhig blue widgets] [blue widgets or red widgets] [using a blue widget] [blue widgets on sale] and so on. use a keyword list like this: blue widget blue widgets blue widgets for sale -yellow -green -free and so on. As you start to see the actual terms people are searching for (via reports + analytics) that convert you can start separating those keywords into their exact matched ad groups. That will give you a cleaner account with a better account QS and make your life a million times easier in terms of account management.
It is correct that having 2,000 keywords in one adgroup would not be optimal... but it does have its uses. One way that I would use 2,000 keywords in one adgroup is to test which keywords are going to get impressions and clicks. Assume I come up with 2,000 keywords dump them all on one adgroup and then let it run for 24 - 48 hours. After that short period maybe 100 keywords get a decent amount of clicks and impressions. I would then extract those 100 keywords and place them into 1 to 1 adgroups so that I can now optimize for maximum performance.
The idea of more number of keywords is gud but then think about your conversions too. Most of your keywords would never ever get an impression. It very important that you eliminate useless keywords and focus only on the ones that are frequently searched.
