Hi All Im interested in setting up a music station but wondered on an average siteground hosting account how many people would be able to listen to a DJ mix mp3 at 128kps at once? Hope that makes sense. I mean how many people could potentialy stream the file before the server fell over, or does that depend on the provider? Thanks for your time
Do a search for shoutcast hosting if you want to set up a stream. Also, keep copyright laws in mind when you stream so you don't get a nastygram from the RIAA.
Hi Fervid Cheers for the reply. I already have a test shoutcast system working so understand how it works. I wondered though if I went the player route rather than stream how many users I could get at once as it starts to get quite expensive when there are hundreds of listeners involved with shoutcast. If i generated a random playlist it would amount to the same thing really for my purposes. I also have copyright control of all the stuff id be broadcasting but cheers for the mention.
Actually the max number of listener is depend on which shoutcast hosting you buy. Under the plan, they will list down the max number of listener.
Start with the simple web hosting account which allow that (yes, not each web hosting account allow that) and test. Then upgrade to higher web hosting solution if you need to.
It all depends on what kind of web host you choose. Some shared hosts won't even allow you to run a shoutcast stream. Others, who specialize in shoutcast hosting may offer plans which can support even 100 listeners at a time. Just look around, you will find a host that fits your needs. Regards, Arania
