Max CTR?

    Hey,

How high does a CTR need to be before google start investigating? One of my pages has an obscenely high CTR well over 50%, and I probably need to try and reduce it before I get banned.

    Regards,

    fcmisc.

or email them with your concern and have them ok it in writing (unless you suspect you are doing something fishy in which case you should change that). this way you won't have to lose revenue because you are afraid to get banned

Yeah I would do just what devbistro said. Just contact google so they know your aware of it, and it's not something your not trying to pull, yourself.

what kinda impressions are we talking? If you have single digit impressions....this is entirely possible.

If you have hundred or thousands per day this sounds almost implausible. Some of our most dedicated experts have very good reason to be proud of their (stable) 20% CTRs.

David is right, it all depends on how many visitors you have. One of my sites gets about 80 daily visitors, so my CTR is almost 30%

And I just noticed I have finally reached the double green... and it only took 2,500 posts, lol

    Thanks, guys

Well I've had 2,400 page views and adsense reports a ctr of 18%. I have 3 ad units per page so it's actually 48%. So not as high as I'd previously believed. Doh.

I've taken your advice and sent a mail off to Adsense to see what they say.

    Cheers,

    fcmisc.

I got a reply from Google and they encouraged me to place a border around my google ads in order to differentiate between the images and google ads.

That seems to be against what is recommended on this forum, but I'll add borders later just to be safe.

This is strange. Google itself even suggest ads that blend in. From their Optimization tips page: "However, you may find that colors that blend in completely perform better."

I'm not sure why they would encourage you to do something to lower your CTR. Unless you are doing something sneaky or something against the TOS, I don't know why they would want you to have a lower CTR.

I didn't ask them how to lower my CTR!!! :)

I sent them the page I was concerned about and asked them whether or not it complied with the TOS. A lot of the TOS is debatable. For example, there was that mobile phone site that someone posted the other day. Some said it was blatantly for Adsense and should be banned. Others here said it was a good site. I'm sure Google employees would have similar debates.

Anyway, I've updated my page with the bordered banner and am about to reply to Google just to get confirmation that what I'm doing is OK.
