Matt Cutts on Pagerank and Serps

I'm probably stating the obvious here for most "SEO gurus", but this explains how my DashKitsCovers.com site remains at the #2 position for dash kits, has more than 10,000 inlinks, and yet remains a PR0....inlinks are whats really important and not PR.

 

No actually its not the number of inlinks whatever that is.

Link quality is all that matters.

10,000 crappy links wont win over 100 high quality links.

Please dont post mis-information due to some luck....

 

If you have to choose, where to put your effort: Get PR or create quality unqieu content... i guess everybody knows that content is #1

 

That site is on Alexa's rank at 3 million and something... very low.

So, maybe dash kits its not a competitive keyword. Also dash kit is on their domain name.

Believe, for sure now this forum will appear very well for dash kits keywords, wait a few hours and see.

 

content is not number 1, there are all kinds of sites with terrible content that are ranking well, and when it comes to adsense earnings, good content actually hurts because people are happy to stay on the site and read so they dont want to click an ad to go somewhere else

 

i think that PR is just a reference (like index in stock market) for how good a site/page is. unless we have a better reference, PR is still the 1 we look after.

 

All I know Matt Cutts is a genius.

For me, to call PR as "Page Relationship" might more appropriate.

He likely had them built or built them himself.

Google only shows a portion of the links they count.

Try Yahoo site explorer or other SEO tools to find links pointing to a site.

 

Doesn't work because as soon as people see what something is about, they try to game the system by manipulating it.

 

Yep, you are right. Quality links from Authority Sites are what matters.

 

Why should they care about YOUR earnings or any other bloggers?

Webmasters chase PR... Surfers chase "good relevant content" and if your
on top off your game then im sure you will find a way of converting that traffic into $$$

As for the rankings....

Some sites still rank high for many terms (with zero PR) and still beat out pr5-6s in the serps do to
content and links and other seo factors so to say that PR is everything is a joke.

I think what is clearly mentioned by him is that there are many variables that google use to determine serp and PR is just one of them out of so many. It is to tell us that we shouldn't get over obssesed with PR alone and what is more important is actually serp in the first place.

 

Definitely agree with malcolm.. some site of mine having lower pr than other good ones related to mine. but still ranking higher.. i used to be chasing high PR not thinking on the quality of sites im linking too. but now im after good quality content and links on sites which i think will lead me to good EARNINGS and RANKING... definitely PR is everything is a joke

great websites always have high PR. Name the top 5K in Alexa who has a PR lower than PR4,5? Well except those involve in illegal stuffs like warez and adult.

 

I never said that ONLY the number of inlinks matters....please reread my post. I said that inlinks (in general) are what matters--obviously it is both the number and quality of links that determines (amongst countless other factors) your rankings in the search engines. Please don't bash my comments based on your own misinterpretations.

Yes it is true that 100 quality links wont won over 10,000 crappy links.
Inlinks are not given too much importance,
Our site importance and ranks depends which good sites are linking to me.
If yahoo homepage is linking to my website , then my site would be .... u can understand.

Well whatever the case is! , people need PR links - PR is very important for guys who deal in link selling/buying . For ordinary sites PR is just a number and nothing more than that . If someone start a new site then he first try to get links from high PR site , why ? - This psychology which is being developed in most of the people & they just want to see a big green PR Bar for their site .
