Matt Cutts: Gadgets, Google, and SEO??????????

Discussion in 'Google' started by Roman, Jun 30, 2006.

Matt Cutts: Gadgets, Google, and SEO is the title of Matts blog but the people seem to have no clue there and it recently turned into some kind of Oprah book club.

Who is Matt Cutts and what's his blog supposed to be?

To me it seems like a venue for G to spout propoganda to anyone silly enough to listen.

Like when he said the de-indexing was the fault of site owners? I'm glad I didn't listen.

I don't have anything against him but since he works for google you can't always take everything he says too seriously because everything he posts needs to be in favor of google. He'll never come out and encourage you to exchange and buy links to get better rankings or admit that bigdaddy wasnt as big of a sucess as google would have hoped.

There is a video on Google Video: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=3383042311441257769

You'll see them refer to him as the porn cookie person a few minutes into the video when some VP of something or another is talking about the "behind the scenes" people (At least I *think*) -- But she makes a ref. to his obsession with Tye dye shirts. He's also made some declarations in legal matters such as when the Judicial Branch wanted millions of query searches. He's legit, however -- being an employee he is probably up to his neck in non-disclosure agreements. You also have to take into account half of what he posts would be "If I could be in charge of this decision I would do this..." sort of thing. You can't get 'em all right ;).

In conclusion -- He just knows too much, people have confirmed he is who is he as at conferences etc. (I'm sure someone here could attest to the latter).

He gets a paycheck from google. Google pays him to talk. If you have any experience with corporate America, that should tell you all you need to know.

Don't believe a single word that comes out of his mouth or from his keyboard.

I started to read it, thought it might be insightful and found a book club. Now it seems he's done his 6 weeks vacation and the posters there are lining up to give him flowers.

I don’t believe everything I read until I proved it to myself. Not everything you red are true even if it comes from an EMPLOYEE of Google. :)

You'll generally find Matt to be cryptic at best. He's not going to spoon feed you but, as a Google engineer, it's a good idea not to dismiss things out of hand.

The thing to remember about Google is, when it comes to being a public company, they're just a baby.

As an example, a while ago the CEO described their lack of storage space as critical. Shortly after, Matt declared they had plenty of room.

One of them have to be wrong. Right? Not neccessarily.

What if Google has decided that their index is going to take up a finite amount of space instead of growing to meet the size of the entire web.

When the CEO characterized their lack of storage as critical, that would right if they continued to grow their index at the same rate as the entire web.

When Matt said that they had plenty of room that would also be correct if they have decided that their index is going to only be so big.

You do have put the public comments into perspective but it would be shortsighted ignore them altogether either.

Matt is the Wizard of Oz sometimes. He's a man behind a curtain. Smoke, mirrors, giant heads, he's done it all. Sometimes its effective, other times webmasters are left scratching their heads thinking "wait a minute here, something doesn't seem quite right".
