so you are going to let your websites be ruled by someone else?? So if Matt Cutts says " this seo/web design company is very highly recommeded" does that mean all other seo/web design companies are not good?? what about those people who simply cannot afford those "authority links"? does that mean they are in deep **** because they are not listed in those authority places??? every single year you see those "quality web design companies" awards in many areas, so people only go there all the time and leave the others to rot? no. those who can afford the high prices will and those who cannot will not.
It works for small non competitive niches, however don't expect to rank for loans just with directory submissions.
Believe me, it sometimes work for extremelly competitive searches. I dont know will I go up anymore, but from nowhere to 6-7.page for 3 million searches keyphrase is pretty good.
I remember reading in google help in 'how to get better search placements' something like that. (too lazy to go and fetch the actual page) And google says, 'submit to dmoz, yahoo directory and other directories. Well with like around 100,000 directories out there, of course there is going to be some nitpicking on which one is good and which one gets alot of weight. So if you have a good directory, with decent traffic, I think it will definately get considered. btw, anybody have a link to matts article. thx
I completely disagree with what he says -- even if he's right. I've noticed my SERPs sky rocket after a huge directory submission, especially for the keywords I chose. In all search engines in fact, not just Google.
Hehe. I don't give Matt Cutts a lot of weight. A lot of what he says is not very profound. He's Google's mouthpiece, and as such his job is to talk a lot without saying anything that's actually going to be useful for SEOs. He has a talent for stating the obvious in ways which make it seem new. So sure, most directories are not given much weight. But nor are most blogs, most forums, or most websites in general. This will keep a directory out of the duplicate content filter, and help it to get spidered and not look too spammy.
Ok, I took the 2 minutes and found the post I was talking bout in my previous post and am pasting the following from google's help. see http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?answer=35769&query=yahoo&topic=&type= see http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?answer=34432&topic=8524
Did you read my post? Half my sites are on the first page with only directory submissions. Results 1 - 10 of about 10,700,000 Pretty competitive term.
I launched a site last year and only built the back links from directories and now it sits in the top 10 for a competitive keyword and has a PR4. We cant forget that 'good' directories can bring us extra traffic too.
