Yeah this is quite old news, Google has moved on from the old days where you could stuff your Meta Keywords full of spam. You still need a good Meta Description though to make people want to view your site.

The only other way to verify it is to design two webpages with everything same but the keywords meta tag different. And check if they land differently in search.

This is just to stop the spamming in meta keywords. Now the only key is good unique content..

Google may not use the meta tags for keywords, but yahoo and bing definitely do. And while they dont bring nearly as much traffic as google, I have found that their traffic does convert, and sometime very nicely :D

Yes, they use the description meta tag for the snippet in the search engine results. But as the OP's linked information revealed, they do not use the description meta tag for ranking.

    Hi ourktm,
Are you sure duplicate meta tags in every page is not good? We use only 1 title page in each pages like home, about us, contact us, etc. except services. What is your advise

Look, if you want to focus on good seo, focus on - onpage and offpage optimization.

Write good quality, unique articles/pages, optimize your meta tags - title, description and if you use your meta keywords which I still recommend doing even though they don't play a big role, use about 30 keywords. Also build your pages around keywords I would recommend using 2-3 keywords phrases about 5-7 times. Build quality back links too. Back linking with quality sites will shoot your page ranking up just remember to stay away from garbage sites that use black hat techniques, are spam/link farms, and sites that are penalized/banned by Google.

If you need tips visit my site in my signature. Also there are tons of other sites around that have great tips and tutorials.

so friend what is the conclusion......

I think there are numbers of other search engine using meta tags and keywords for SERP. We are search engine optimizer not Google Optimizer.

So i think we need to optimize our site for all search engine and meta tags and keywords are still important.

It's like Matt Cutts speaks and the whole internet goes buzzing now. I take his comments with a grain of salt because 1) Google's rules have and always will change and 2) Google likes to keep us guessing

I don't believe we should just suddenly all ignore keyword meta-tags because there is a bevy of other search engines out there that don't ignore them. Don't diminish your exposure because of what one representative says. I say run the whole spectrum of SEO basics and let the search engines decide what they want to evaluate and what they dont.

    Anyone agree?
