i wonder how will google know if u brough a link, it can be put under resource section of the site where u have taken it.
a publisher can give links to other sites he likes, not necessarily it has to be paid, dont u think so ?

Acually it is impossible to say whether a link on another site is a paid link or not!

Matt cutts thinks that he can fool others by saying Google can detect paid links

    He is fooling himself!

Best to get links blended into content. Footer and sidebar links could be devalued but no real evidence of this yet.

Matt actually was talking about many things before the PR update.
After the update however everybody knew that he was just bluffing and it was all stories...
one should believe in common sense rather than believing others.

    Google know your every move.

if you buy go ahead and buy, but don't think google don't know it.

    Big Brother knows everything.

That is the way life is for now.

I took extra steps to put no follow tags in everything I was linking to (on my main page), except for the few links that I traded with a few other (like me) new webmasters a few months ago.

I have a links trade page and do not have no follow tags in them. But it should be clear enough that the links are not paid. It is just an exchange.

I remember when all that hoopla started and paranoia got the best of me. . yet again.

I did read that html is going to make the nofollow tag part of the "official" thing. Interesting, wasn't that created by google?

Any link building campaign should be slow and steady.

My personal strategey for building links for new sites loosly follows.

New site -link to it from 3-5 of my established sites.
2 months - do about 100 directory submissions

After the site gains a PR - then do a bulk directory submission

6mths + Buy links for traffic - whatever you can afford.

6-12 mths buy blog posts to get contextual links to your sites.

Now, this is not perfect, but it has helped me to slowly build sites and avoid the sandbox. Once a domain is 6+ months old with a fair bit of content then getting a heap of links all at once is less of a problem

Going out and buying a couple of PR6 or higher links right off will have a short term effect - and when you can no longer afford those links.....

Build and age your site slowly and it will naturally gain links along the way if your content is good enough for others to link to.

quite interesting. However even if you get a lot of links at once, how will google decide whether its valid or not.

Lets suppose, there is sensational news or one of it's own kinda website, which everyones talking about. There will be a lot of links popping up all of a suddern, through out the web.

So does google flag this as link buying strategy ??

No idea how they take it, but I definitely did not like Google's monopoly over webmasters. If they want to deliver quality content let them, not at a Webmasters cost !!

    Just my 2 cents.

Just proceed with the purchase. They do not frown on links purchase unless you are buying to manipulate SERP.... according to them.
