Somebody posted a neat little math riddle yesterday and nobody got the answer, so here's one that's slightly easier while we wait for the answer on the original: Using four 5's and standard mathematical symbols (i.e. +, -, x, /), create ten formulas that result in the numbers 1 to 10. For example: 1 = ( 5 / 5 ) x (5 / 5 ) 2 = (5 / 5 ) + (5 / 5) 3 = ? 4 = ? 5 = ? 6 = ? 7 = ? 8 = ? 9 = ? 10 = ? Remember, each equation can ONLY use four 5's and standard math symbols. No other numbers, no decimals, etc. I have an answer for all 10 and will post it in a while, but I'd like to see who can come up with it. No prizes sorry, just bragging rights to whoever can solve each of them. If you can only solve one of them post your answer anyways, maybe you'll help other people with the other ones. I'll post more riddles over the next few days, I have hundreds of them Good luck!
1 = ( 5 / 5 ) x (5 / 5 ) 2 = (5 / 5 ) + (5 / 5) 3 = (5 + 5 + 5) / 5 4 = ((5 x 5) - 5) / 5 5 = 5 + ((5 - 5) x 5) 6 = ((5 x 5) + 5) / 5 7 = 5 + ((5 + 5) / 5) 8 = 9 = (5 + 5) - (5 / 5) 10 = (5 + 5) + (5 - 5)
