Hye guys, ok, so here is the question... Let't say I buy a domain with a name... ugm... whatever.... SomethingSomethingForSale.com... now, let's say sites that appear on 1st G page don't have Something Something For Sale in a title, neither in domain names (so far so good), but 3-5 PRs and thousands of links and indexed pages (so far not so good). So, how do I calculate what it takes me to get my domain on the first page (let's say position 5) if I will put up plenty of content (wont's be too well optimized on page - don't ask why)... so, i get hundreds of pages indexed... I know it depends... but can you give some hint on how to calculate what might be involved?
There is no way to calculate this. It all depends on how well you write the content on each page and how good the inbound links are that you attract.
Actually you can do this but by a different method, just check which site is coming on #1 for your search terms then analyse and investigate this site, check from where the backlinks are coming, check the Content, Interlinking techniques, internal links and loading speed then make your site better then this, in simple words analyse your competitor's site and optimize your site better then your competitor one. This is one of the most practical SEO methods
a good rule of thumb is "dont stop till you are at the top" keep building backlinks and dont look back. even when you rank on the top, you are required to do occasional link building to maintain the ranking or you will drop over time.
There actually is a way to calculate it, but only Google knows what it is It is true you have to keep at it or you will sink fast. This was not fun for me to find out. I have over 170,000 backlinks judging by google webmasters, but we still sink down sometimes and so i have to go throw more links out there.
Don't go on numbers go on quality. You can get 1000 links from directories but these all links will be so small if you get listed in Dmoz.org(I am not listed there). When listed in Dmoz.org you will automatically get listed in Google Directory and many similar ones. So what I am saying is to get good back links.
Hmm I'd recommend this process Scroll down in the serps until you see a page you can "easily" outrank (seo is never easy but by "easy" I mean doable) examples of this may be a low PR article, low PR web 2.0 site, maybe even a video result.) Since you have the keyword in your domain, with a little bit of link building and good content you should be able to beat these sites in ranking, however when you start trying to outrank PR4+ sites with a lot of authority, you really never know what type of effort it will take.
Even pr 3 sites without much or any authority can be very hard. I'm currently working on one of those.
Too many variables. You won't know until you try it. I've had one page websites receiving 2k uniques a day through just SE traffic, and none of the terms showed up for traffic in any estimator tools as it was "too little" but obviously that was wrong. If you want to build a site, understand your target market and go for it; outside of that there are no guarantees.
thank you for sharing guys... it still looks like and art rather than a science Groovystar, how on the earth one can build 170,000 backlinks? did you have some very viral content? use auto-linking software? what's the story? There is no way one can do it manually even with a team of 5 SEO people...
