i have noticed in my field a lot of sites that are doing really well have matching titles and descriptions, can you anyone confirm or otherwise if this is a good optimisation technique?

    My advice :

    1. Make a page for optimizing one or two keyphrases maximum. Thus the title and description would best contain the same two keyphrases.

    2. Yes. Instead of having 10 keyphrases in the description and title, it helps to have just the ones you are really optimizing for.

    3. If you have the same keyphrases in title and description, it will better help with that particular keyphrases. If you have, for example,

    SEO in title, and
    Search engine optimization in description,

You would rank decently for both (ideal discussion).

    If you would have:

    SEO in title, and
    SEO in description,

    or,

Search engine optimization in title, and
    Search engine optimization in description,

You would rank much better on each particular keyphrase, but you would loose the other.

SO many of us strike a balance in this :)

    Cheers :)

Thanx for the infomation. I usually follow same technique. Although i try to use new keywords once or twice in description to my regular keywords.
