Starting a week ago I started getting lots more spam emails than usual. Most about order shipments and I have no idea why they started coming. I wake up in the morning and I have 20 of them. Has anyone else experienced this?

    thanks.

Could it have been something you signed up for? Because I just checked mine and I have virtually no spam.

That is not new, there always have been a spam problem with most emails, but good thing is that they are in bulk folder, there is nothing you can do other than delete it.

You probably used that email address on some website offering free services or downloads and they're starting to push their marketing messages onto you.

Its spam rather than junk mail. Its not something I signed up to. All the messages are about the same thing and it is as if they are just launching a repeated attack.

I dont use Yahoo, but I get about 20 spams a day myself. Most of it comes from Russian, China and poland IPs and such.
I'm going to add those countries to my iptables and -J DROP them from my mail port is what I'm going to do.

I like to receive advertising messages every now and then. I don't consider them spam. :) I can see what is being offered out there and what scams to watch out for. They go to your Junk folder anyways so what is there to complain about? Just check for any mistakenly placed messages into the Junk folder and empty that folder and you're set.

I simply delete all the SPAMS.

You get it generally when you enter your email address at certain sites to get something for free. :D

Maybe the emarketing companies got your email randomly from the whois database. I seem to be getting a lot of webhosting and ebusiness software's spam lately, the stuff they know that may interest webmasters. Fortunately most of these end up in the spam filter anyway so it's manageable.

You got to be kidding, would you click on links in email that look like this? 8ee6.xnovanip.cn/?yqicjlyj=c21a5e2dec11a880c378d&janiyv=711639188800655072458&doubdb=tqwxqvdz becuase 95% of the spam I get is crap like that.

Anyways you might be talking about legit mails.. Where you actually are signed up to their mailing list. The example above is not by a legit method. There mostly bullscrap mails from russian and chinese spammers looking to phish you.

Oh, I don't click their links. I just like to laugh at how silly their scams or ads are. It is amusing. :) By the way, I don't read all of them, just the most interesting ones and this allows me to see what tricks they use to persuade people into doing something and how they try to bypass spam filters. That's a lot of valuable info if you want to protect yourself from scams and stop future spam.

Its prob because you listed your email somewhere and a spam bot picked up on it.

Right now they appear to getting threw the spam detection heuristic by making their mail look like a newsletter. They will have to develop a heuristic to detect domains that look like this 87fds.jdkee.cn/?click=jfodfsdfjdslkfjs
Obviously by a human eye, you could tell with some certainity that its probably a spam link... Would be interesting if they could develop a heuristic into their detection algorithm to detect urls like that.

Well, that would be simple. Just label all e-mails that have links from China and Russia as spam. LOL You're right. More and more of their e-mails look like newsletters. They also have a fake unsubscribe link to look like a legit newsletter. Once you click it, you're taken to their Viagra and Cialis sales page or basically to more spam and will not let you to unsubscribe. I think that even by opening their e-mail, they already get notified that your email address is active and send you even more promotions and useless crap.
