It appears Snapple made a futile attempt to get into the record books with the world's largest popsicle, or "Ice Scraper" as they called it. Unfortunately for Snapple, "timing is everything" wasn't taken into consideration. It seems an early Spring attempt and not the first day of Summer would have proved more prudent. Or at least a very early in the day ... While moving the ice scraper, much of the kiwi-strawberry-flavored ice pop had melted and breached the protective covering, spilling into the streets; NYC Fire Department had the pleasure of the clean-up. Not all was a wash-out. Despite the 20-ton ice dud, Snapple gave away free ice pops to the many kids who'd gathered in Union Square to watch the event. I haven't seen a picture of this yet, but I can only imagine what a huge ice pop with a "protective covering" must have looked like - can you say prophylactic?
