I have a brand new blog that I would like to get the word out on that it is open for business Would someone have a massive list of free directories to which I can begin submitting the domain to? Also, what other methods are recommended? I'm familiar with blog commenting, social bookmarking, writing articles. Thank you
It's not massive, but it is a quality list of free web directories. Just under 1,500 free directories are listed, and the URL is in my signature. Submit to the newest ones first. They will review your submissions much faster then high PR directories. Those links will also get indexed quickly as well. I have a good list of social bookmarking sites in my signature as well. Between the two, you should get plenty of backlinks... It's a lot of work though. Get a free form filler like roboform.com and use it to complete submission forms. Just randomize your titles and descriptions as often as you can. Happy link building!
Don't go mad! Submit to more than a few hundred a month and surely you'll get the big Google ranking penalty. I know - it happened to me!
Thanks for the link lists and the suggestion of not overdoing it. Those lists are pretty large, rather then push the link to every site as quickly as possible, the thought was to do about 30 links/day which would get me through 900 sites in a month. It wasn't so much I was thinking about the penalty, but rather what could be practically done in a day without being overly time consuming. I wonder if that would still be considered excess and trigger a penalty. The domain name does have age on it's side, it's quite old, just no activity as it's been dormant.
Unless one is submitting to "auto approve" directories, you can submit manually as fast as possible. I've never seen a site penalized for submitting to free web directories too fast. Besides the time it takes directory owners to review the submissions, it also takes time for the search engines to index the links.
I've seen this happen myself, but I don't really see why it should happen. The reason I say this, is time and time again, I've read that Google can't punish you for SEO which is offsite because that is out of your control. How could Google determine if you submitted your site to 2000 directories or did comment spamming or if a competitor submitted your site for comment spamming?
Im nearing 300 submissions to dirs for a new site in less than a week, i dont worry, it will take some time for those to be approved, rejected, some of the directories i submit to will become parked domains before i even get my site rolling.
I think that it is important to look for quality and appropriate ones as well if you want them to effect page rank as well.
I was looking at these directories and they look really inviting. The only thing that concerns me is that in most cases, you can only submit the top level domain name or the subdomain name. This would be an issue as the linking would look un-natural. It doesn't appear in most cases you can submit other pages eg such as blog categories which would spread out the links across your domain a bit. Am I correct in this?
Here's a list of directories that allow deep links. Use the directory search on the site to narrow the list to just free directories if that's what you're looking for. You can use them to mix up the pages you submit.
Hey man, you know what i am going to suggest your directories, It's good that i take a look on your directory and list. it's such a wonderful. I recommended every one to go through this directory list. Thanks Snowbird for the list.
You can also use my list of 3000+ directories. Link in my signature. You can also manage your submissions by registering.
I got no answer yet. I just find that there is not enough visitor coming from these backlinks. I have tried around 20-50 of them. Is it just me or what?
I forgot to ask you, but how can you tell that the sites on that page allow deep links....not that I looked at every site on the list, but I did look at 3 or 4 and unless I picked bad examples, I didn't see anything on those few sites that indicated that I can submit anything but the home page of the domain.
A lot of the directories are added to the list by the directory owner. So they state they allow deep links. The ones we enter ourselves we scan through the directory and see if they have listings to deep links.
