First, I hope I am posting this in the correct forum. Our site has been online for 3 years, and has always done very well in Google. I check my awesome Keyword tracker daily or at least 4 or 5 times week. Although I am sure thousands of keywords apply to my site, I track around 30. Well.... starting mid last week I started to see keywords drop. I mean drop, gone, from number 1, 2 or 3 to GONE off the listing. Everyday, I wake with a huge pit in my stomach and check again to find yet another keyword gone. Nothing has really changed with the site other then the usual additional page, which is very common for the site. My PR is still a 6 for the index.htm . It shows a 5 for most of the product pages. The site is all html with a couple of small asp pages. I have emailed Google only to receive a standard reply. Everyday, and I mean everyday my keywords are dissapearing. Does anyone have any thoughts? Could this be temporary? Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks.
On the 12th May I noticed that my secondary keyword terms [not supported with anchor links] started to drop away across all of my sites. So I am assuming the same is happening here for you - all you can do is get your anchor links up! [PR has dropped in importance as well] BTW - nice looking site and you are still 4 for "gag gifts" Use mcdars tools to see where you are as well as KWT
Hi Foxy, Thanks for the kind words about the site. And yes, I take a deep breath these last few days waiting for my # 4 Gag Gifts term to drop in to the oblivian too. What do you mean by anchor links? It is mostly secondary keywords, but some keywords that we have had the # 1 ranking for years have gone bye bye. I could understand a drop of positions, but what on earth would cause them to fall off the results all together. For example "Fake Lottery Tickets". What is mcdars tools, and kwt? Thanks again for any input.
Nice site. What are your keywords? What anchor text do you use to get links coming in to your site? What are the key words that people are linking to come to your site? Google is paying a lot more attention to anchor texts. Try this on Google. allinanchor:fake lottery tickets
when i looked at your site, the fake lottery ticket page did not show as been cached by google (nor having any pr) and entering the page url into google it came up with no information found, yet found 20 pages on other sites containing the url from the index page it is linked by <a href="lottery.htm" class="link_right"> Code (markup):
The /lottery.htm page has been around for 3 years. It has changed over the years, and up until 3 days ago, it came up number 1 on Google for Fake Lottery Tickets, Gag Lottery tickets. When I am at the page, my google toolbar is showing a PR of 5. So by Google showing it not as cached could that be good news, that they could not spider it last time, and it may be temporary, or could that be a sign of trouble, that they are not spidering it on purpose?
i have just re tried it both with and without the www. probably just different data centers... or may be a "net" glitch that made that page unavailable during an update??? 3 days don't worry too much... have a long walk with the dog and see what happens in 7 days? or next update... or add a NEW link to that page from your index page? (assuming that index is spidered more often) there are quite a few pages showing no cache / PR from where i am (UK) so it may be data center thing or google trying new things ?
Hope for the best but don't expect anything. If I were you I'd be working on gaining more links for the terms you're seeing dropping. I hope it works out for you.
