Massive disappointment

Here's my story, I was using my favourite tool:free version of discovery search and came across a seemingly untapped niche.

2000 searches per month and only 40K results in google.
So i buy a domain start building etc, and then decide to check another keyword and the searched are drastically lower, I check again with another tool and the same thing.

So should i trust the accuracy of keyword discovery over 5 or so other tools, or just assume keyword discovery is wrong?

They use mutiple search engines so that might be why the numbers are different. The other might use one so they will be lower

    Hi,

For google i only trust the ADWords internal tools - Thus, after i decide upon the keyword i create a dummy campaign and get the real-time count for exposure by google ... can't get any better then that.

As per other search engines, didn't figure it out yet.

google does not give a number of searches, they only show you a graph.

I hate that part about their keyword tool

Tip 1 - NEVER trust one keyword tool....EVER.

Now, I'm going to assume that the "other" keyword tool might have been WordTracker which would show you a dramatic difference between searches.

You have to remember that KD produces data on a yearly basis where as WT does it on a 90 day (3 month) basis.

There is a formula to work them out to get an average of searches using both tools. It will show more than WT but less that KD.

Also in conjunction with them use Google's keyword tool. What better to use than the most popular search engines own database. And it's free.

No keyword tool is accurate down the the last number but everything has a mathematical equation.

Once that is mastered, you can pretty much be within 10 searches -/+ of that figure.

Of course this will have to be recalculated every month to keep the results accurate enough.

But you can have all the tools in the world and you never can predict search engines.

You have the domain name so don't despair, go ahead and do what you was going to do.

Even if you only get 40 UV's a month, 36 of them could very well convert.

Even some major keywords with 5000+ UV's per day don't get them kinds of conversion rates these days.

every once in awhile, that free Wordtracker tool throws a garbage keyword in there that has a false number of searches. I always follow up with something like the Google keyword tool to see if it's at least in somewhat of an agreement with a Wordtracker result.

The Google tools are the best and are based on Google which is the most important search engine and is where you should focus your attention!

The Google traffic estimator shows you PPC click throughs and the Google keyword suggestion tool shows you actual figures for searches per month.

I use these tools alone and had never ever ever ever had problems

Of the KW tools out there, KW Discovery is by far the worst. Wordtracker has a free version but it only lists the top 100 KW's for a search. There's no one accurate tool on the market that's free IMO. You have to use your best judgment and common sense to determine if it's a viable niche to go after. Now with the avg searches available in Google Adwords, we have a more reliable tool to do our research on.

2000 searches per month is about 50-60 searches per day that's pretty low (depending on the website)
