WASHINGTON - A criminal complaint unsealed in federal court in Washington on Wednesday alleges a web of corruption and bid rigging in Iraq by officials who worked with the now-defunct Coalition Provisional Authority, the U.S.-led agency that ran Iraq for more than a year after the 2003 invasion. The complaint accuses an American-Romanian businessman, Philip H. Bloom, of paying officials from the coalition’s south-central region "bribes, kickbacks and gratuities, amounting to at least $200,000 per month," in order to obtain reconstruction contracts through a bid-rigging scam. According to the complaint, Bloom "conspired with United States government contract employees and military officials to obtain fraudulently government contracts." businessman bribed coalition officials to land rebuilding contracts
The worst thing is that only american companies are invited to these contracts. btw.. corruption exists everywhere..
Oh yes, French soldiers died, so they should be getting the contracts, in brief just as they did before...
not France but there was other countries that took a part in the war. I hate france, trust me.. they should be punished for their pro-Saddamic views.
Oh yes, then we agree! The most involved were/are the UK, Australia, Italy and others. I am so proud that those 3 all took part as they are exactly the countries I belong to. In under 4 years I could add the US... Anyway, I believe that those that contributed will get a proportionate chance to join in the reconstruction process.
I agree to an extent with the bolded part, I however find it a horrible reason myself. Nothing like going to war to profit off of it, which is basically where that comes down to. If we trully cared about the Iraqi people I would think the companies who get the contracts would be the companies who did the best work and offered the best price in order to get the most quality work done as possible, this however is not the case.
G-World, have you nothing nice to say about USA? Where the hell do you live anyways? Are you really castro? Inquiring minds want to know...
I like many things about USA. I like the Constitution. I like the Democratic system that existed in USA before. I like many of American writers. I like American movies (any way little older movies, mot that much today's crap). I like the spirit of fair play. I like American cars, especially big engine classics. I like the attitude and willingness to try new things. I have many American friends that believe it or not, some of them are in American military and I have an American cousin who is in National Guard and was helping in N.O. after hurricane. I have studied in USA and still have a house in LA. But I don't like when they try to destroy the Constitution and citizens rights. I don't like people who preach fear and hatred. I don't like racism. I don't like corruption and I don't like torture. In my opinion any soldier who participates in killing civilians or torturing POW is a criminal and disgrace to uniform. I do not believe in closing our eyes to the truth or tolerating criminal activities and corruption; is in the best interest of western civilization. I live in Canada and I hope that my country will also stand for democratic values and human rights. I will be as much against my country if Canada tries to demolish citizen rights or tolerate corruption. I hope this answers your question.
Totally off subject but found this an interesting read, so much for they are all foreign terrorists? http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/10076523/
