Massive Adword Ads

I'm still in the process of getting my online price comparison site off the ground and I'm already getting (only a few) unique traffic from google (searches for manu. part #'s and product codes).

I have used adwords in my other online projects but not on a massive scale and I'm wondering if I should go the PPC route with this project.

Has anyone here tried using adwords for a massive amount of ads (it would be over 50,000 unique ads with one unique keyword for each ad and each ad will be in a different ad campaign based on the category).

You're not asking any specific question, other than managing a huge account. I guess 125,000+ and growing qualifies me so here are my thoughts.

First, I hope you created your site to comply with their rules. You mention a price comparison site so that falls right into a few that could get your ads suspended. I've never used Adwords for such a site so I can't help you much other than quote regulations.

Next, you better plan the structure of your account very carefully. Sounds like you might be. Keep in mind Adwords limits. A normal account would have no more than 25 campaigns X 2000 groups in each. You may have categories with more than 2000 items so what do you do? I would ask Google to increase them as you'll need it. The account I manage can have up to 100 campaigns, 10k groups in each.

Managing such a huge number of items is very time consuming. Proper tools are also needed to wade through a huge amount of data. You can't just go into the account and eye it. Spreadsheets are not proper tools for this. You need a database management system. You'll therefore need to learn about databases, not something everyone is willing or has the capacity to master.

It would also help in generating your keywords and ads. I'm assuming you'd create very generic ads. Fine at first just to get ads out there and have the money and willing to lose some profitability in the beginning. But you will need to refine manually to suit each product, increase click rates and therefore QS as well as conversions. That's the long and tedious part hat will take months, if not years. If you just have generic ads for everything, just like every other price comparison site, it just won't be as profitable for you, likely not profitable at all. So your last decision is whether you take it one step at a time or go gangbusters.

The merchants I deal with have no issue with sending them traffic from a price comparison website as long as I agree to their terms on bidding on their trademarked or registered names (and domain).

I have already developed a method that allows me to create campaigns as well as activate/deactive campaigns (from the SQL database backend) but have not tried it on a large scale.

One issue I did not realize was the limitation on the amount of add that can be created so I'll reach out to them.

    Thanks.

You need to check out Speed PPC. I am not an affiliate but this software will put together an allmost limitless amount of tightly grouped adgroups and very relevant text ads never mind dynamically changing landing pages for excellent QS.
