You're not going to like this, but ssandecki IS right. HOWEVER, it is also a good idea to play it safe with your link building strategy. Rather than just flooding the Web with links everywhere you can get them, target the sites that you want to have linking to your own.

Why? Because those targeted links are far more likely to be worth a LOT more (not only in the traffic they send but how well that traffic CONVERTS) than the practically no-value dirt-farm links that various directories and other low-quality sites will deliver (if they can even do that to begin with).

In some respects, it's a lot like fishing using a net. If you're allergic to shrimp and lobster, yet your nets and traps are catching mainly shrimp and lobster (and the occasional small fish), chances are you're going to starve rather than risk an allergic reaction. Instead of just tossing the net and traps around willy-nilly, the successful fisherman will scope out the area he wants to fish, identify the best prospects for hauling in a good catch, and then exploit them.

As a search marketer/link builder/whatever you want to call yourself, you need to do the same thing, except with the Web sites that link back to you.

(Disclaimer: It's going on 7PM here and I just woke up not too long ago.)
