Hmm, I never knew that this would be so hard.

I tried contacting some of the paid services, and they all seem to have trouble with importing email lists. Some of them only allow a set amount per billing period (5000 max) which is useless for me. They also all ( ? ) require that emails be sent to the user prior to them being imported, so the user then has to confirm that they'll allow me to send them emails. All in all, I won't send more than 1 email (I'm not doing a newsletter, just informing users of a new service, which they have agreed to) and so paid services don't seem like a very good option.

You should at least give PHPList a shot then, see if it gives you 'good enough' results

if you have fantastico, it installs easily

I've just been looking in the UK and can only find a few (for those einterested):

    http://www.graphicmail.co.uk/ - Basic & Cheap-ish - half finished here and there
    http://www.wirepress.com/EN/pricing/ - Seem OK
    http://www.emailtools.co.uk/compare.htm - Expensive and 1995 website

    I want this:
    http://www.emaillabs.com/apifaq.html
But in the UK :( - They have a full blown API so I can manage subscriptions exactly how I want it. Not some basic from of theirs, I want it transparent to the recipient.

Do any of you know of professional UK based and UK hosted mailing list management solutions?

I have compiled a list of around 3k emails from my directories and would like to send out an email to them in one-shot rather than from each directory. There is a feature built into PHPLD for sending emails so maybe they will have a solution at their forums, I will have to check. PHPLD is free so maybe you can install the script then upload your DB and send them out from there?

Come to think of it, you can also use a component for Joomla, called YaNC to send and track emails to large lists

Well if anyone can help me set something up it would be much appreciated :) I now have an excel sheet with around 3,700 email that I would like to send something out too, I might give phplist a try since I do have fantastico setup on my host, I never saw it before but will take a look.

I have been very happy with campaignmonitor.com. Great reports and very easy to use. Very low cost. Not free though. But in my mind, worth it.

like I stated earlier, a paid service is vastly superior to self-hosted, unless you're a spammer
