Mass Email Programs

    Good morning everyone,

I am the director of a non-profit law enforcement association. We have over 1200 people on our email list, however our ISP will only allow us to send out email to 40 recipients at a time. They will not change that setting. So now I have to send out approx. 30 emails to reach all 1200 people.

Can anyone suggest a program to send out the email to our list, without having to send 30 different messages to reach everyone, or provide us some assistance. We are a non-profit, and I am new to mass email, so any detailed suggestions would be most helpful.

    Thank you

Aweber and GetResponse seem to be to the two most popular.

If you're OK with getting your hands a little dirty, phpList is another solution which you can setup on your own. It has a throttle feature which can limit the number of emails sent out within an hour, enabling you to send out to large distribution lists over a number of hours without running afoul of your host's policies.

I've found phpList difficult to work with, and I'm an experienced developer. Many people find it impossible.

It also has trouble with Hotmail addresses

You're definitely better off with a professional service like Aweber or Get Response. I used to use my own server, but found that about 50% of my emails never got delivered, especially to places like AOL and Hotmail. Both AW and GR have really high deliverability rates. So besides the fact that you don't have to risk your hosting account and they are easy to use - you'll also get more of your emails actually delivered.
