Thanks Babak. It was worthy of it's own thread. Here is the Wiki link that confirms what you are saying about Iran, but if you look at many other Muslim states, they are not too different http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marriageable_age#By_country For instance: And also, in contravention to what Nightcrawlers was saying about 18 being the law in Pakistan:
thanks for information and your link but there mentioned about Iran. I got my information from persian sources. http://fa.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D9%82%D8%A7%D9%86%D9%88%D9%86_%D8%AD%D9%85%D8%A7%DB%8C%D8%AA_%D8%AE%D8%A7%D9%86%D9%88%D8%A7%D8%AF%D9%87_%DB%B1%DB%B3%DB%B5%DB%B4 see this that I found in your link http://www.parstimes.com/women/child_marriage.html
I'm not sure what is the objective of this thread...but here is the issue: Why did Muhammed marry Aisha at six years of age?
is "Post off-topic comments on DP Competition" still going on? India: Female - 18 years, male- 21 years
so far I haven't seen a bride less than 19 in my country but anyway it is our law. if you see it wasn't just about age of girl. in the case of marriage we have a lot of things worse than bride underage.
I wonder where you belong to and I have come across an article few months back, it was about an country where a Marriage is considered strange, I am not sure if its based on a particular region or religion - just wanted to share this info I think its un-fair for any girl to be married at least until she turns 16 and male 18. They must at least have knowledge of what exactly a marriage is, its not a child's play for god's sake
According to me the minimum age of the girl to marry should be 18 years..... bcz b4 the age of 18 they are not physically & mentally prepare to marry.....
I'm going to make a guess: In the major cities where people are more educated, you will see a lot less of it, but in the country areas where there is less of a metropolitan social life going on, it's more likely to have girls given into marriage at that age and nobody doing anything about it because after all, it's the law? Even though it's legal, you got to be one sick mofugger to not only want a girl that age, but actually marry one that age.
yeah you are right. beside discrimination against girls is not just about their age! and yes, it's depend on education and level of living condition that in big cities is better than rural areas.
