I would like to run a script similar to digg / pligg on a project of mine. Have found Markit (developed by Agriya, but I am not sure I should pay for it. Money is not the issue (I can pay up to $100 for a social bookmarking script), the problem is that 1. I don't know if it's actually good and 2. didn't get reviews or see a properly set up support community on their site. Already wasted time with a Q&A plugin for Wordpress (which cost me 90 bucks almost and it's a piece of junk, even if the developer is friendly and supportive) and had some horrible support from Scriptolution which I don't recommend, unless you like paying full license price every 3 months, otherwise you lose the access to updates/support, not to mention I was never as abused as I was by that developer. Fortunately the script I run is actually decent, so I haven't wasted my money entirely. So, the idea is to run a site that's digg like for my users to promote articles/news in our niche. I have tried installing pligg, but it doesn't seem to work (get constant token errors and the support is non-existent - asked for support more than a week ago and nobody from the development team bothered to give me some ideas, even if the error is a very common occurrence for the new version - I used the script years ago and it was working nicely). Unless I get some response in 2-3 days, I'll need to start looking for another script, since I can't put my site on hold until someone bothers reply. I would like to purchase a script, if this meant it would be a decent one, but I am not yet sure what to choose and if MarkIt is good enough for me. I am sick of rude developers, lack of support and bad scripts, so I'd like to get something that WORKS and is supported. Any ideas are welcome and appreciated. PS: I am not looking for undeveloped scripts or stuff that's been put together for a quick buck. I run a serious site and want that platform to sustain a big community in few months, not crash in 2 weeks
When you are paying huge money for any readymade script must check all features and review of it. Because sometimes one you pay money, readymade script providers may not support you. I personally prefer Customized Digg Clone because it gives most of features such as, - Robust - Scalable - User and Search Engine Friendly - SEO Friendly - Taking less time to load - Unique and responsive design so it will supported in Smartphone, iPad, iPhone etc... - Gives 100% copyright and ownership of design, images and database so we can feel free to sell it in future and get good return of it. And one more thing is that yet I haven't seen that any popular clone websites are using readymade scripts so that's why I prefer customized digg clone first. Money is precious so we must spend it on right place to get lifetime profitable business. I have checked good reviews of NCrypted Technologies to get customized Youtube Clone.
I've been using Pligg for years on many different projects and it was very good, considering that it is free. If the current version creates you problems, use an older version (the latest one that I have used is 1.2.2, but the most of my projects were based on v1.0).
