Hello, Is it possible for an admin/moderator to pm me to discuss an issue with a marketplace auction I won? Thanks in advance.
I won an auction for a domain, I asked for verification of the domain before I send the money, the seller refused (without any valid reason) and asked for the payment to complete the transfer. I've sent him a number of PMs afterwards, but he has not replied yet.
Since no one contacted me yet, can at least someone tell me to whom can I send a message to so the transaction I won can be cancelled? Thanks in advance.
I think you need to verify any details you want verified before you bid and win an auction. After you win is not the time to start asking for more details - that is the time to pay up and get what you bought.
I agree when we're talking about general details (for example if you want to check traffic stats, income etc.) but it's common sense that someone has to verify that he owns something he intends to sell! If he's bored (since it's an 1-minute job) to upload a simple HTML file to verify it (or just change the DNS settings), then there's definitely something wrong. In that case, why pay and then have to deal with a PayPal dispute (which is the most likely thing to happen)? In my case, I asked him for a valid reason why he's refusing to do this simple verification and he never answered. Would you pay this person?
Invalid question. Like Brown said, I'd have verified what I wanted to know *before* agreeing to buy it, so I wouldnt be in this position to begin with. Don't get me wrong, you're asking a valid question, but to put it in a nutshell you're trying to close the gate after the cow's already out. The time to do due diligence is before you bid, not before you pay for what you already contracted to buy. You created the mess by ignoring the natural timeline.
I strongly disagree. It's a completely valid question/assumption. I did not agree to buy air, I agreed to buy a domain that he's supposed to own. Like I mentioned before, it's common sense that someone has to verify something that he's going to sell to you and there is no question (neither a discussion) about it, especially when it's so easy to do it. This is the process that the whole mankind follows from ancient years! It's completely different from every other kind of information (such as traffic or whatever), where I totally agree that you have to ask before you place a bid. And in my opinion, if it's not mentioned in the marketplace rules it should be added since it’s completely unfair to the buyer. Therefore, I would say that it's the ...unnatural timeline! The natural timeline is that someone verifies something and then he's getting paid. After all, how am I going to buy it if he does not own it? The only way that I can dispute a payment is if I don't receive the product (not if the PR was not valid for example), so why someone would buy something that is not verified and then spend valuable time in disputes? Are there people who actually work this way? If they are then I'm completely surprised to hear it! Anyway, there isn't anything more to discuss. The transaction can be left like that. The guy has disappeared anyway. At least I learned the lesson that I should not take common sense for granted, therefore I'll ask for verification before I even place a bid. Thank you all for your time. PS: Please let's not continue discussing this matter since we're going to end up repeating ourselves (I already did). I get your point and you get mine. We can just agree that we disagree.
Fella - If you were right about the proper timeline... we wouldnt be having this discussion now, would we?
To reverse it, if there was common sense and logic in the world, we sure wouldn't! (if everything was perfect and correct we wouldn't have any discussions; sometimes things need to change for the better) Anyway, like I mentioned before, you have your opinion (which I respect) and I have mine (which I have justified). So, for one last time (I hope): There is no need to continue this discussion.
Just to answer your question, I've bought thousands of domain names... .probably a couple hundred in the last month or so and never asked for verification. Now, that is just me. It is certainly something some people may want, but then I would make sure I asked for it before bidding. I've never been scammed by someone not actually owning a domain I bought. (I did get scammed 1 time, but someone who sold and transferred domains that were in his account, but then after they were mine Godaddy took them back and said his payment had been reversed by his bank or some shit like that. The point is, even if he had verified ownership, it would not have protected me). Anyway, good luck with your purchase. I do see people asking in domain threads for the owner to verify ownership, so I would suggest doing that before bidding next time just to save the hassle.
