    I don't think you use Google sitemaps to 'attract visitors' as such, it is more to tell Google about the pages your site contains and the relative importance of these pages, this can help in having the pages crawled faster and on a more regular basis.

    There are also some tools in Google webmaster tools that can give you some idea of how Google views your site.

    Sitemaps are used for better indexing of your pages and thus more traffic from the search engines.
