Marketing site - where to spend my hard earned money

I'm now fairly happy with the latest release of my site. It was a bit of an experiment at first to see if I could actually learn a few new skills.

I'm now obsessed with it and of course reading posts here on DP lol! It's time I concentrated less on coding and more time marketing it. I have some cash to spend ($500) and this is what I'm thinking of spending it on:

    1. Pay for inclusion into directories to increase page rank. I believe there is an update in April so I had better get going ...
    2. Get someone to write some articles and submit to article directories. Any ideas what area articles should be about?

Does this seem like a sensible plan of action to take? Are there better avenues to take? Don't want to waste my time/money! Thanks.

Depends on what your goals are for your site and the length of time your willing to wait on said goals. I wouldn't waste to much money on directory submissions, a few quality ones should do the trick, but wouldn't spend over $100 total.

Given the content of your site I would think getting paid articles on popular Webmaster blogs etc will get you some exposure and your money should go a lot further. Just my opinion.

In your case I'd go for http://www.reviewme.com/ - that will also help you find out if your product meets an actual demand.

kh7 thanks for the suggestion. Very good idea indeed. Lots of development still to be done (already started!) to make ads more targeted included sub-levels for categories etc but a review would be useful at this stage.

I was going to submit to 4 or 5 paid high PR directories at most. Not completely sure what this will do for my PR but as the pages are new it should definitely help. Content suggestion is very helpful, thanks.

For the directories, you need to get high PR ones and you should submit in the right category.

For the articles, ensure your resource box html link leads to your landing page and that it presells your service.

Thanks CraigslistGuy. What do you mean by "resource box html link"?
