After following the advice of some to promote my site on Craigslist, I must say it's a waste of time. If you ask me, Craigslist is a wasteland of haters and trolls. It's discussion forums rival that of Yahoo!'s former message boards in the arears of vulgarity and indecency. After responding (with relevant content) to several posts with my site in my signature, I was flamed with SPAMSCAMflagged. I kindly reminded the moron to read the TOS and that I was within the them. Nevertheless, the moron visited my site to leave a insulting message, which is cool because he/she is probably jealous that a fledgling webmaster is showing iniative while his/her pathetic butt trolls during the day. The moral of the story is that marketing on Craiglist is overrated. Besides, after perusing the site, that's not the type of traffic I want or need.
Hi ... sorry to read you had such a losing time on CL. I haven't used CL, much, but every time it's been tops. I placed a few ads, seven I think, around the USA, for a song lyrics database and got about 6,000 visitors over 10-14 days. This was only place I promoted data base, so most came from CL, one way or another. Mostly, I use CL to find journalists to conduct interviews, for my site, all over the USA. I average about 55 qualified responses, even though I clearly state that I can't pay top dollar. Overall, respondents ask for a fair fee for their work. All in all, am quite satisfied and yet to be spammed. Another side of the coin, I guess. Good luck.
I didn't try posting an ad. I responded to posts in the discussion forums. Perhaps, that was the source of my problems.
scoop, I'm sure that for everyone that has had a bad experience on Craigs List there have been a greater number that swears by them. I've been knocked off a number of times but usually it was my fault. I'm not a very good follower of rules, but the ones that are or have found a way to get around them have great success over there. Ask a lot of questions of the ones who claim to do well on there and maybe you'll find out how to work the system over there then you can tell me. donrock
What i never get is how people say post your website in craigs list... What if your site isnt selling anything or offering like a service? What if its just a information site? And yes the boards do get riffled with shit at times.
Copy and paste here what you posted, scoop. Or give us the link. This is a good example on why I tell people not to put in their url in the first few submissions. Besides, don't let one or a few jackasses persuade you from doing something that may work out for you.
Uuummm... I made $2,400+ with Craigslist and I'm making traffic, leads and profits right now. Quite frankly, it works like a charm and it's 100% free advertising. My Italian customers use CL to post "Italian ads" and they sell products too. I must 100% disagree with you cause I have tons of proofs that Craigslist works a lot. In my opinions + tests and results, the problem is not what you desire to sell. The point is "Sell what people need & want" and use the best way you can. I mean "Long term ways" cause they are the best technique to use on CL. Just what I see in my hands.
I had the similar experience; after that I stopped using craigslist forums. But indeed its a great site with lots of visitors; thats the good part. You can use webcosmo.com for your ads, I don't mind posting urls
CL INSANELY fights spammings!! Maybe you need to hire a CL expert to post ads to hundreds of cities of CL.
There's a difference between posting in the ads section on Craigslist, and posting in the forums. You can make decent money posting ads in appropriate Craigslist catergories. On the other hand, you will be ridiculed, spammed, and tormented to no end if you post any kind of link to your site in the forums.
The right ads in the right categories (if I'm selling something and link to more pics) will bring me some decent traffic. As far as informational sites, I post a linked image in the right category. It doesn't always get me much traffic but I'm still learning and experimenting. However you HAVE to watch your category placement. I have a friend who does nothing all day long except flag posts that he thinks are in the wrong categories. I tell him he is being an ass but he has nothing better to do.
Haven't done much in the way of craigslist posting, but everytime I have I received a decent amount of traffic from it. Mostly, I'm just too lazy to compete with their spam filters and game the system, I spend enough time as it is (and make more money) gaming adwords instead.
I had a hard time with CL, and grew a hate club before I stopped. Better to use forums with sig's instead of dealing with idiot's
I have used craiglist and it worked beautifully for me, that I even made like a video tutorial on what I did http://www.ianfernando.com/2007/getting-on-craigslist-with-your-build-a-niche-store/ it worked well for me and I enjoyed it that I am looking for a replacement for me to post for me on there
CL forum is pointless. last time I asked for help to obtain a motorcycle license, and all the respones were " why I shouldn't get one" . Totally unrelated.
