Title: MVP Times URL: www.mvptimes.com Age: 1 day I created a website where users submit, vote on and discuss breaking sports news. It's very similar to digg, just sports specific. I know digg got popular via word of mouth. I'm hoping word can spread for my site as well. Any specific marketing/promoting techniques I can use for my site? Currently I am asking sports bloggers to post their articles on my site. I am also posting on some fantasy football sites with a link in my sig. My budget is limited to basically 0 dollars. I am familar with all the basic techniques... just wondering if anyone can think of something unique. Thanks
i don't know how much basic you know unless you list all you've done. if you haven't already done so, there's still submission to feed directories and feed search engine to do.
I run a sports related site which has a niche market as it is only a supporters group for 1 club The way we advertised was that we made banners with slogans on them and our site address they were appox 3 ft by 1 ft We took them to every game we went to and handed them out to others. Our aim was to try and get on tv witht hem and to get the crowds seeing them. This was hugely succesful, the first day we got on tv after a try for 10 seconds and also got included in a highlights reel. The next game the mascot grabbed one of the banners and walked around the field showing everyone We handed some out and we see them pop up every now and then. In totla the entire campaign cost us $25 for laminating a few of our favourite banners. The rest we made at work or got a mate to print them on draft paper as he was a draftsman. We now have over 1000 members and a get well over 2000 hits a day. Might be worth a try Dan
Oh in fact if you go to my site Silvertails.net you will see in the top header/banner the mascot holding the banner when he took it. Our photographer saw it and snapped a shot!
Thanks for the replies, and Danny I'd go to your site simply to see the two girls you have in your header banner. Oh baby! Going to games is a good idea. However, If stadium personel see me passing our flyers they will kick me out. You can't go in an NFL game and pass out flyers. And son, thanks for the info on the rss directories... I sent in a bunch.
Lithman, nice simple layout! You've got your RSS feeds which is great. Follow Danny's lead he seems to be doing well.
rather than hand out flyers just print out a banner or 2 for you and your mates, Sit in different sections hold them up, yell and scream. Just use catchy slogans like the priceless adverts. Keep them based on your team and they just look like supporter signs, however I garuntee people in the crowd will see them. Take themto every game you attend and print out a bunch with different teams on them. Essentially you need to have a bit of charisma to talk your mates into doing it but it works a treat
Hi Lithman, You mentioned that you've contacted sports bloggers and asked them to post on your site, but have you contacted other sports-related sites, as well? If not, this may be a good way for you to create some links, simply by asking other sites to link to yours. If the other sites have a high PR, this would help your ranking in the SEs, as well. HTH, Sam
I have a few members who follow the NFL during the off season here in Australia. We might be able to work out a link trade. I would say a lot of NFL fans would also enjoy Rugby League (Not Rugby) like we enjoy NFL also
