Marketing my new idea

I have a unique idea that could take off in the same way as sites such as million dollar homepage... The only thing that I need is a worthwhile marketing strategy.

As I don't want to disclose my idea as of yet - I havent even started to code the site yet - Please can somebody give me an idea how they would go about marketing a site such as million dollar homepage?

I have read the blog on the site and it seems that the guy who started MDHP emailed a lot of people making everyone aware of the site, then he began to contact the press.

    --

    I was thinking...

With my initially small marketing budget I will pay for for a few myspace bulletins.
I also want a couple of articles and blog entries talking about the site - Which I could exchange for sponsor links on the site itself.

    --

I'm extremely confident the concept will be big, it just needs the right marketing to get the snowball rolling.
At the moment I relate to million dollar homepage because that is the only site that even slightly resembles my new concept.

Do your script, do your website, copyright it, register it, and then hire some brain to do the job.
So you'll have 50% chance to be screwed instead of 100%....

Get it coded, get it looking PERFECT

One big blogger mentioning it could bring the traffic you require, submitting a press release (paid) could also be something your looking for

its a very basic concept and the designs have already been drafted, domain bought, etc. so it will be online within a couple of days, give or take perfecting the look and feel of the site.

id like to do the marketing myself - whats the point in getting somebody else to do the fun part? Plus I will enjoy the learning experience.

Have you any recommendations for somewhere to submit a paid press release? I want maximum coverage, and I don't really need to target a specific market.

I actually have two very unique ideas that have both spontaneously come to me in the past week although I'm going to focus on one at a time. All joining the xoog network :)

Has anybody won, write up testimonials

What is the source of income of this site, just the ads on top right ?
People are probably worried that noone wins, its not like its NOKIA hosting this game and paying the bill

if the winning spot is just 1 pixel i doubt anyone will ever win :)

you can just place it right on the edge and in 10 years from now nobody will win :)

I think its a decent idea but I dont see how you will make money.

Hardly anyone is going to click on the google ads.

@Chios: it was literally launched this morning so nobody has won as of yet, I'm planning on writing testimonials although its just a case of getting them

@drhyperlaur: do you think it would be a good idea to have several lower-paying pixels one very image too, or maybe even an even easier difficulty level?

@aaron: I'm waiting for the statistics to come through so I can apply for valueclick or another CPM network

I highly doubt valueclick will approve it since the site will generate a bunch of pageviews everytime they click. You may have to go with a lower end CPM network to get approved.

it's hard to click a pixel even if you know exactly where it is :)

it would be good if someone selcts your site for CPM, that way you can give more prizes, but i doubt anyone can espect high CTR

find a good CPM network and your site's earnings will grow "like a snowball", you'll be able to give more and more prizes and players will keep coming - i think you should forget CPC

and yes, try some smaller images 100 x 100 px maybe, don't know... make some tests

but first find a CPM network
