marketing music sites...

i have a new community here http://www.banra.com - i was just wondering where would be a good place to advertise? or how would i advertise? myspacE maybe? i dont know

 

MySpace works well for my music webzine, but by using it to network, rather than just promote through friend trains and mass bulletins. I wouldn't recommend that in the slightest. However, it's not going to matter much until you get some posts. You might be best off hiring posters from around DP first to build up the forum a bit. Personally, I don't think the design is going to be very appealing to musicians. It just feels a little cold and too monochromatic, and blue is generally a color used to appeal to businesspeople, not bands, especially when using so much of it. Just my $.02 on that issue.

Get on the indie link exchange and you'll find plenty of places to exchange relevant links. Do reviews or something (set up a new forum area). The bands you review will likely link to it, and once I had a particular artist link to his feature I did, and it literally brought in 4000+ uniques just that first day. It was insane. I've never had numbers like that before or since. Occasionally you find one with a huge following who promotes themself like crazy, and therefore your piece and link would be promoted too, and not cost you a dime.

Also, create an entire section just devoted to different types of music publicity... it's a pretty hot topic, and I haven't seen a decent music forum w/o one before.

Get your links attached to relevant articles that are published in music or entertainment related blogs. Your traffic will grow naturally.
