Well I have had this idea to start up a mixtape store online. I have read a few mixtape stores tos and have figured out how to avoid legal troubles but now I am stuck on how to market mixtapes across the internet. I am thinking about mass adding people on myspace and advertising that way but I would like to know if there was any other ways to advertise a site like this. If you have any ideas please tell me. Sincerely, David C.
Careful, don't get murked like DJ Drama. Mixunit had it on lock for a long time with the "free sticker" thing, but Clinton got shook and reformatted the whole site, needless to say Mixunit is no longer the place to get mixtapes. My advice, don't do it, mixtapes are profitable if you can get a hold of the top spot, but if you slip once, the RIAA will have your a$$.
Well my site is www.mixtapeunlimited.com. I have set it up and got my TOS up. The user is buying the cd covers actually and not the album. The album is just for promotional use.
I have been dealing with mixtapes now for about 5 years and have dealt with everyone big in it from clinton sparks and his MixUnit.com to others and promoting artist onto them. The market is oversaturated now and there are so many download mixtape websites and large websites that sell physical mixtapes. Then you also have to compete with downloads on message boards and datpiff.com has the free mixtape market locked. Also anymore RIAA has cracked down and even Mixunit.com removes all mixtapes from time to time.
Well yeah I was thinking and decided I did not want to deal with the RIAA. I have just turned the site into a mixtape review site with samples of the music so people can hear what it is before buying it or downloading the whole album.
