I love it when marketing bloggers post actual details of tests they've tried, whether the tests won or lost. Joe Sousa did some experimentation back over the summer on the Lebron James sports story and similar news items. Results and analysis are here at his blog, along with some insights into lessons learned from the failed test. Frank
I just started my own blog doing the same thing with Joe's Million. Know any blogs about selling ad space?
I don't know any that are specifically about selling ad space, but many of the big marketing blogs monetise this way. I'd suggest just using affiliate promotion in your ad space until the site gets some traction, then start looking for paid sponsors once you have some results to show prospects. Frank
Maybe I don't get the model -- pixel page? I mean, if you are selling ad space, and you have unsold ad space, what do you do with it? Frank
It's bad ethics to send traffic to affiliate programs when your paying customers pay for the exposure. Also, potential advertisers need to see what space is still available; I can't do that if I'm filling up the blocks with other ads.
Don't know about the ethics issue -- unsold space is unsold inventory. Hardly unethicalto use your own website traffic. But on the practical side of things, I do understand if you're using something like a pixel page setup, that you need to be showing some open spaces if you want to sell some. Frank
I find it unethical and i wont do it to ruin the trust of my advertisers. Traffic I have, finding advertisers to buy the spots seems to be harder to do. Working on getting a few bands to try it cause they need promotion.
