    Hi,

I am from the UK and would like to know how best to start off marketing a website in English that offers services to businesses and people in China.

    For example,

    • Am I better off with a .cn domain name
    • Is it better to have it hosted in China
    • Do I need to be securing one way back links from other sites hosted in China

Are there other things I need to consider?

    Thanks

    Jimbob

Create appealing ads, get them critiqued, along with your site, and then place the ads in sites that cater to businesses and people in China.

There is more to it than that, like also looking for newspapers that they read, like a Wall Street Journal type paper, but that is basically it.

Advertise in places they go to! Advertise in the newspapers, journals and magazines they read!

I'm assuming you want to make money, right? Then you are going to have to spend it.

Also, call or send an e-mail to these reputable advertising services for advice. They have a wide range of places they advertise their clients in:

TextLinkAds, TrafficSwarm, CasaleMedia.com, FastClick, BurstMedia, TribalFusion, Azoogle, GlobalInteractive, AdBrite, Adengage, RealMedia, Kontera, Avnads, ValueClick, RealTechNetwork, Reduxmedia, and, Dotomi.

I spent the past 5 years in Beijing and have the following advice:

.cn is better and having it hosted in China will get you around the firewall if you're writing about anything even remotely controversial. BUT finding a reliable host in China is near impossible because most hosts are spam farms and you might end up getting your site blocked along with the other sites if you're on a shared server.

I hosted most of my China sites back in the US because of the reliability and professionalism of the hosts in the US. My topics were not controversial so no block by the firewall.

Getting traffic in China... buy it. Getting ranked in search engines in China is not worth the effort. Check out Baidu and google china and set up ppc campaigns with them.

If you're really serious about entering the market then you will have to hire local staff to do the sem for you in the native language

After learning more about Chinese culture its almost impossible to do things over there. You need to have it hosted somewhere else and also you have to get in very tight with some local programmers in China otherwise its very hard.

But it can be done it just has to be seen as if its operated in China
