Is there any point in posting links to a facebook group, i mean does anyone actually view them and see the content and act on it? Is my time better spent elsewhere?
I tested this out about 16 hours ago, i joined 4 or 5 groups about Gaming, which is the niche of my site, obviously. I then posted a link to our most interesting story of the day, and so far Analytics is telling me that we've received only 4 visits from Facebook, which is not encouraging to say the least. I think the problem obviously stems from the fact that these posts don't appear in peoples news feeds, or their feeds in general unless they have manually set up, which i think is safe to assume the vast majority won't have, in fact i'd go as far as to say that most users will have almost all default settings on Facebook. I find with my fan page (has around 1000 'likes') that i only get about 40-80 views on each post, obviously depending on the time when i post them, but alas, people also don't seem to be clicking those very often either. I'm not 100% sure about the most effective way to use Facebook as a marketing tool, and i'm not keen to put my cash into a Facebook project until i am. If someone could shed some light on their Facebook experiences it'd be really helpful.
It's real shaky. You hear people always talking about how great Facebook is for traffic but I have yet to have my share of goodness from them. I think you just really need to push it. I believe the best way to get sure fire traffic, is to ADD these people from the groups as friends. Then use FAcebook chat to personally talk to them. Pain in the ass, yes. Worth it? Yes.
From my experience from looking at analytics, people do come through facebook but only a very small percentage but facebook is free so any free form of marketing is worth it imo. However, I wouldn't spend too much time trying to generate revenue from facebook in this way as there are far more effective ways to achieve your aim. you have really had good experience approaching people on chat personally? When spammers try and talk to me they just p*** me off
I don't spam them thats the thing. My profile is an actual picture of me, and it has actual information about me. (its just a 2nd profile for marketing reasons). And I Facebook chat them and make small talk. If I added them off a group related to my niche I casually bring it up and suggest my website. It works better when they know you are a human, that you are sincere and true, and offer them a solution.
Groups are one thing. Fanpages are diferent. Of course your links in groups won't show in the news feed. They don't. However, whenever you post in fanpages, it does appear in the news feeds of all the fans of the page.
I really wish some people would read the actual thread before just randomly commenting with whatever they think is actually relevant...
Can you help me how do I selectively post to a group? I am a member of a number of groups, and want to be able to post only to one particular group, without it also posting to my homepage.
