I run a new blog and I have been having trouble getting more readers.
    I want discussion-based readers.

    Heres the site:
    www.readourshit.com

    Any help would be great.

I do all the basic stuff, submit to social bookmarking, submit to topsites, i have started programs with other blogs.

I was just wondering based on my blog-type if there were any good ideas. I was thinking about running a social bookmarking contest where people would submit blogs and whoever gets the highest social bookmarking rating would win.

I regularly read a particular political blog, and aside from the main content one of the other things that keeps it interesting is that there is one thick-skinned individual who happens to agitate and rub everyone up the wrong way. Easy to do on a political blog of course, but it often amazes me just how much extra comments and discussion is created based on this one individual. His/her posts are always polite in nature but most often they are short, succinct and very provoking. No matter how much vitriol is directed at this person however, 'the troll' has never responded with insults, name-calling or any other form of abuse which infuriates his/her attackers more. As much as I dislike his/her politics, as a webmaster I can't help but admire how much extra traffic this one 'identity' brings in. There have been many lurkers on that site who have been coaxed out of hiding in order to give this person a piece of their mind, and, of course, this creates more discussion in itself.

Many times I've thought that if I ever run a blog, I'm going to create an alter ego that trolls in a similar fashion. Perhaps that might be an angle you could look at.

    Phlegm...

(p.s. Personally, I'd get rid of the profanity if you really want to get serious about attracting visitors and good discussion. Unless of course adolescents are your demographic.)

The profanity is not a regular subject on the site.(aside from the name)

I have noticed that (especially if i take a pro-American stands) that political blogs go along way with discussion.

Does anyone have any ideas for contests and sponsors for said contests?
