Hey, I've always thought this was a good idea and would like to share. Has anyone ever tried ordering custom pencils with your website's URL on it and giving the pencils away? For example, make a few hundred pencils and hand it out to kids in the neighborhood if you're marketing towards children. I'm not sure if it's expensive though. Anyone tried it?
I have thought about it but never done it. A company actually sent me a pen with the name of my website on it and wanted me to order hundreds of them for a few cents each. I did not do it. I don't know how successfull this would be as a marketing tool. I guess you'll never know unless you try it.
It is inexpensive and well worth it ONLY if you have a product/service that is worth it. The promotional "piece" will draw great attention to your product, and sales will follow IF your product is worthy. Remember, promotional "give aways" do NOT sell your product, they only draw attention to your product. You can give away all the promotional goodies you want, but the product you are trying to draw attention to has to have merit on a number of levels OF IT'S OWN if your campaign is going to succeed. I tried it a couple years back with 1000 pens........ cost me a lot more than I made from any increase traffic sales...... but was worth it to see my pens lying around stores etc, and on peoples desks at work, etc. But unless your selling a product that costs a fair amount, and you can recoup the money spent on the pens, it's a great way to go in the hole fast. There are lots of other free ways to market your website like making home made flyers, etc..... for store bulletin boards etc.
I'm thinking of having mousemats done. They last much longer than pencils (pencils get lost!). Plus, they're always by a PC. You could also make a big thing of it- "free mousemat with every order!" etc. Only thing is they cost quite a bit more.
