    Hey Guys,

I am out of ideas now??? I have been trying SEO for the last couple months with my site, and as of right now it is the biggest waste of time I have had. I am first page on google for the keywords I am fighting for, but still I havent even gotten one purchase because of it??? Now I am starting to get invovlved with flea markets and swap meets to sell all my stuff.

So if you guys could help me with ideas with better more effective ways to market my online business that would be very appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Neighbor Nick's

It may not be your marketing that is the problem if your traffic is good.
If your traffic is bad however, you may want to try social sites, like facebook and myspace.

but it depends on the products that you are selling. If they are gift like items they can work on social sites.
SEO is a pain, but don't think google is your only option ^_^

Try posting ads in craiglist, that helps to a degree. Also, offer to give free samples to bloggers who will in turn post about your service or products. Place ads in newspapers and yellow pages.

Hey. I use to be in the same boat as you. SEO is hard as crap to get a hold of. Most people don't know how it works so they pay these 'SEO" companies to help them when all they do is get their website banned by google for participating in blackhat. Here is my view; there is way to much competition on the web to just optimize a site and hope it stays number one in google. I would suggest starting a blog for your website. This allows SEO to be used more effectively per each article/blog post.

SEO is a daily struggle and is not a 'set it and forget it' approach. I would also suggest focusing more on social networking, social bookmarking, quality blog post, newsletters, and building backlinks by blog commenting instead of focusing on SEO itself. Believe me, if you want to do things the 'whitehat' method, this is the only way to acheive good results. Good luck:)

check out stompernet, they have very good ideas how to drive traffic to your site, and to increase your sales

i found them extremely helpful, regardless whether you're starting a new business/product or want to increase your already established positions

promoting at social sites works as well, but takes more time as you have to carefully select the people to target
usually you have a limited amount of messages you can send per day, so need to make sure they reach the right people to buy your products

by the way, what's the use of being first on google for a particular keyword, of no one searches for it
you may be targetting wrong keywords
    just a thought...

Maybe the problem is with the website design? order process? etc. and not necessarily a traffic problem. My suggestion is to test everything and see if you can get the traffic to convert.

Try going through the order process - can it be improved?
How's the website design - is it easy to navigate and find your way around?
Does the website look trust-worthy? Would you purchase from you?
Check different pricing points - priced to high? priced to low?

There are many factors to look at and to test. Don't give up just yet.

What exactly are you optimizing the site for? If you are ranked well than you are more than likely targeting the wrong things.

I agree with Activeweb as well. There are a range of usability issues to consider.

I did not read the above posts, but perhaps your traffic is OK? Do you have analytics hooked up so you know whats happening?

If you have good traffic, but no conversions perhaps your copy is not good, your price point is not good, your graphics are not good, or all of the above?
