ok so heres the problem. i went from having 500+ unqiues a day to having 30 or so for the past couple of days. i update my site 2ce a day and i know the content etc is there. i need a way to attract readers to come to my site and pass the word on. i cant go the digg route anymore as there is trouble with digg users going to different pages etc. i was wondering how people get real people to your sites. i should mention at basically all of the traffic is organic at this point in time.

This sudden decrease of the traffic could be because of the new algorithms Google is testing.

    You can promote your site:
    1. On celeb / teen forums, put the URL in your signature.
    2. Buy related text links with the right anchor text to boost your site in the search engines.
    3. Submit to directories.
    4. StumbleUpon should work quite well for your niche.

    Good luck!

I'm curious about the answers you'll get. My site isn't celeb gossip oriented, but it is movie/tv/pop culture themed and I've been looking for something WOW and out of the norm as far as promotional ideas.

BTW, you mentioned you couldn't do digg because they kept going to other links. What do you mean?

Okay, I just went to your site.

I'm confused by your blog there. It seems most of the posts are coming from other blogs, PerezHilton, HollywoodRag. ?? Am I missing something? Are you just linking to other sites?

yes i get my info from those sites. i have to say who the source is etc. but the amount of info i have on the site is far greater than the rest of the gossip sites out there. so i dont know what else really to do. i ment that when i get users from digg they only stay on the page they got connected to from digg, as in the dont cruise around other pages on my site.

I'm, gulp, a member of ohnotheydidnt. People who enjoy gossip sites like either A. new stuff or b. a fresh spin on stuff. They're a very tough crowd. Take a look at ohnotheydidnt: http://community.livejournal.com/ohnotheydidnt/ The members there post gossip from other sites and add their own commentary. People read it for the commentary, the gossip and the community comments.

My own suggestion: find a way to break news. Eventually you'll hit on something. I did it with Chuck Norris' ultra conservative rant on Virginia Tech there on ONTD. Keep an eye out. Subscribe to google alerts where things might pop up unnoticed. Keep an eye on fanclub boards of big celebrities because they'll get the news first (unless TMZ is the one scooping - then it's S.O.L.). You can subscribe to message boards through your reader and have them delivered to you. If you get just one good scoop, you'll get more readers. They'll start to trust you and subscribe to you.

I'd do it, but I don't have the stomach for it. I read ONTD for the comments - not the actual gossip. However, that's not true of everyone who reads over there and certainly not true of the Perez crowd. They want dirt. Perhaps you could do posts that are round-ups during the day of new and upcoming stuff via these sites until you can get into your groove?

I think he's saying you should try and promote it on RottenTomatoes.com

It's a good idea. Put it in your sig link on their forums.

Wait for a really big story that comes up (some good celeb dirt), then do your take on it and spread the buzz via social sites.. Just relying on Digg will be difficult - there are many other good social sites around too that will help you.

    ben_polska, aletheides, and blondeheroine,

I'm having difficulty wrapping my legs around your problem, in the sense that it's a complicated one. I'm failing to see how it really is.

Too many times to count, my Business Marketing Clients, call me up on the "Bat-Phone" (High-End Client only line), and inform me of a PANIC situation. Sometimes, they get themselves all Hot and Bothered, and worked into a serious, Tizzy. But more often than not it's simply a matter of them being so deeply rooted in their forest, they can't see the trees.

I believe that might be the case, here.

What You Are Perceiving As The Problem,
    Could Be Your Best Asset

You're niche is Gossip and Celebrities.

Gossip is anything, but declared fact.

In other words, you don't have to sleep with a celebrity (there's some free news for you) or get into their pants to be part of the action. You're simply reporting half-truths, and maybe-its-true, maybe-its-not information.

Would you have trouble creating juicy stories for The National Enquirer, one of the most sold publications, that "nobody buys" - at least by public admission. Their stories have a smidgen of truth somewhere buried in the "Guy Grows Yams Shaped Like Hitler", intriguing journalism.

What so hard about NOT reporting facts?

    Here's what I'd do specifically:

    1. Go to Yahoo's BUZZ Index to find what people are actively searching for right now.

    2. Put yourself in front of a craving crowd, salivating for more information about that popular topic.

    3. Fabricate your own controversial rumor (only a smidgen of truth, but how many rumors do you know that never are correct? - hint: LOTS).

Example: THIS is HOW EASY It IS To Solve Your Problem:

I don't even know this person, but based on Yahoo, directly from Yahoo (there's about as much fact as you need), "So You Think You Can Dance", the television show has increasingly been climbing up in popularity for searches. UP +231% in fact, on the 15th. The reason, mainly, is to catch a glimpse of the eye-candy of a host: Cat Deely. "Cat Deely Pictures", as a keyphrase is on the rise, not so ironically.

And people want to know about "Cat Deely Hair". So, report your rumor, stuff in the keywords, and BRAG about it.

    Without thinking:

"Is Cat Deely Hiding Hair Extensions From Her Fans?"

"Cat Deely: Her Hair Is Falling Out"

"Cat Deely: Wants To Cut Her Hair Short
    "

    Etc., Etc., Etc.

Trust me, It's a lot more difficult creating compelling, factually based content that people want to read, rather than, when you boil it down to the basics, just making stuff up. I wish your problem was mine..

There's my 2 cents for the moment.

Add pictures to your posts. Most people who have interest in celeb news and gossip like pictures.

See www.TheSuperficial.com and www.IDontLikeYouInThatWay.com as examples. When I looked at your site, I did not see any pictures and I have no time to sift for something interesting. Make it easy for your reader to get an idea what is there from pics.

I personally don't do the blog thing, as I am way too busy to be updating sites on any frequest basis.

If you are doing celeg blog, then do it in the sarcastic and over the top style that seems to be the forumla for success.
