Okay, I am currently working on forums for my blogging site. The forums are general forums marketed towards teenagers. It is currently in testing and is in need of content before i launch it.

Now, I've never marketed forums before. I would think posting on relative forums would help. But what else? are there effective forum directories i could submit to?

    Thanks.

PS: It would be appreciated if anyone could sign up and post.

Best way (and natural way) would be to get more posts in your forum , so these posts can be picked up by search engines -> which will lead to more visitors and possibly more members if they find it interesting.

For marketing, why not try purchasing some advertisement sites relating to your blogging niche?

A good way is to start posting comments on related blogs that do not have the "nofollow" link on... it should bring you traffic.
    Good luck.

If you plan on posting on other related forums to help get the word out about your own site, then actually become a contributing member of that forum. A good mod team will spot such spam tactics and you may be shunned ~ especially if the admin of the site are members here at DP ;)

Stay on topic, only plug your site when it's relevant to a discussion, and utilize your sig link.

I give more tips here: Forum Link Building tips (it's not just your signiture!)

For gaining content, seo ranter is right on, get your friends & family to join! Also encourage the readers of your blog to get into the action.

Nofollow only works for bots and for stopping PR. I'd be more then willing to give a few plugs on a site with a good reader base that uses nofollow. Heck, I'd even be willing to plug my sites on a site that didn't even let bots read links. As if the link is for traffic, then traffic is what you'll get (just not bot traffic ;) )

I would also agree. It doesn't matter if you don't hardly promote your forums or you promote it like anything, it still will not get you many members or posts if you don't actually make the forums already look rather full with posts. Get some paid posters or post yourself with different usernames just to get things started.
