The aim for this web site was to create something UNIQUE and see how it compares with creating something that doesn’t take brains to develop.

    The Twitter Lotto
    Advertising & appeal put together.

At school we have an assignment to promote a business. The majority of the class is creating Facebook groups, fan pages, flyers, business cards and all that little stuff for promoting generic everyday businesses. I’m sure it’s effective but I'm not down with being like everyone else. So while I was looking at the leaky roof of my basement suite before I went to bed a recent Friday night, I thought to myself… What the heck could I do to create mad attention? That is what marketing is all about… appealing to the public.

I had to create something that could be harder to start but easy to maintain as I juggle work and school together; so having to sit on the comp all day would not workout very well.

I came up with the Twitter Lottery.
A lottery with an increasing jackpot based on the web sites population.

    How it works.
-Participants enter the lottery by following an account on Twitter (at no cost).
-People are interested to see how much the jackpot becomes. They are kept up-to-date via the twitter account (tweets) or by visiting the web site daily (returning hits make the site value go up).
-I tweet an ad to the followers once per day along with web site updates, jackpot increases, etc.
-The more followers, the more money I can charge to tweet an ad. (I charge approx. half a cent to 1 cent per follower - 1,000 followers = $10) (As the site grows with more followers, there is more advertising potential and I charge more money since there are more people. Jackpot starts growing faster.)
-The advertisers pay for the tweets; a chunk of the money collected is contributed to the jackpot.
-I use 1 AdSense ad on the homepage to collect revenue for the jackpot as well.
-I split the earned money with the winner.

*If enough money is earned from advertising:
-I turn Twitter lotto into a business and continue to create more jackpots.
**If not enough money is earned from advertising alone.
-Sell the high traffic web site and split the earnings with the winner.
-Somebody else with more money turns it into a revolving business.

Here is how you can use this web site to your benefit.

I am not saying this site will succeed, but if you feel it has potential:

*You can write about my site on your blog, I will put a link back to your blog post onto the twitter lotto web site; which could possibly be beneficial as the web site gets bigger. If your site looks good I’ll probably even make a digg post and try to get a bunch of people to digg it.
**I will also place a micro ad onto my music web site which receives around 2500 hits per day and is always growing.

I prefer not to use link exchange sites as it will make the Twitter Lotto pages look unprofessional.

I will attach a progress blog when I get home from work as I was at school all day so I'll check again when I get home around 11pm.

Let me know your thoughts, ecouragements, hate, discouragement, etc. All my friends think its a stupid idea.

I don't necessarily think it's a bad idea, just seems like it would take a whole lot of work in order to make it run the way you envision it. You would have to get a lot of followers in order for advertisers to feel like it's worth it for them for you to post their ads as opposed to going elsewhere to promote.

Oh I know, the plan is to establish itself over time. If not sooner than later.

    I gotta start somewhere right?

Hey guys I appreciate the encouragement! I will look for advertisers once I hit around 100 followers. I'm not going to follow anyone to keep spam to a minimum. I've been using Twitter for awhile and I know its full of it, every new account you get followers trying to promo their junk. I on the other hand want to use it properly.

sounds like an interesting idea. On your tweets make sure you don't post the actual lottery number, but rather same something like, "The Twitter lottery has been updated for the day check it out at www.domain.com"
