    Hi
I am helping a small engineering company. They work for petrochem clients and they do basic engineering for them. They use particular 1 or 2 softwares and many clients look for companies with those softwares.

I am going to help them to market their capabilities. Help them with maybe 5-10hrs/week in marketing efforts.

First step I am going to do is fix their website, put keywords etc.

I need guidance for seo. what would you suggest me to do? Since couple of years, I have not been into SEO etc so am totally not aware on recent guidlines and thats where i need some help

    > Do backlinking?
    >submit search engine directories
    >publish articles on article directories or PR site?

Help me and guide me please,...

I would suggest you to create some social profiles and try to add people with similar domains that would create real connection and conversion ratio would be much higher. Other than that if you are looking for SEO that would target interested audience and according to your need it seems social networking and connection would be more targetting than SEO.

    Thanks
    Frank

yeah I agree with Frank. There has been a huge shift in the last few years towards social marketing and making a connection with your targeted market. It takes more time to make that happen but the payoff lasts much longer. Sites like Youtube and Facebook offer high reward for people who can master the connection element.

Not familiar with your niche but images related to your content (with "alt" tag) is another good idea

    Start thinking like your clients.

Are people seeking engineering services going to search on Facebook? NO

Are those people going to search on Google? YES

Are they going to check for connections on LinkedIn? Most likely.

Are they going to search on YouTube? Not a chance.

I'd focus more on building a campaign where you reach out to them, not wait for them to FIND you. Connect with prospective clients via LinkedIn and professional groups. Create a compelling case study or guide that you send them for signing up for your industry newsletter. <<<<READ THOSE LAST THREE WORDS AGAIN..

You want to create a list and start marketing/sharing/connecting through email, because I seriously doubt you'll make any impact in an industrial/engineering setting using Facebook and YouTube. Don't ignore the platforms, but don't rely on them.

With ALL content, focus on keywords your clients might search for, but don't fall into the trap of believing SEO is going to bring you a ton of business. It will be reaching out and creating an email list that is going to be the big winner in that market.
