Hi was looking for some advice on basicly selling advertising on site. I am currently building a website with quite a unique concept and hopefully in the future maybe be good enough to sell but for the time being we just want to generate some cash from a few adverts. Now I have never put an advert on any of my sites before and just want to get my head round the whole process. When a site is new and your just trying to get traffic surely it wont be worth much in terms of selling advertising, would it be best to maybe leave the advertising till the traffic is big enough so you have good stats to approach people for more money, the last thing I want is getting tied down to six months with advertising that is probably worth alot less then if we left it a while.
Any advice on this would be gratfully accepted

It's all about supply and demand. If you have good traffic then selling ads will be easy. You can use a simple link to a submission form that people who are interested in buying ads can contact you from or you can utilize programs like Adsense to get automated ad income from.

It's not an exact science but lots of times you can judge your site traffic to daily ad cost with sites that rate your domain name price. It would give you an idea as to how much you can charge per ad.

As an advertisr myself, I can tell you that I wouldn't want to advertise on a site with very few hits.

First build your traffic up to at least 1,000 daily hits.

Find advertisers who are looking to advertise something similar to what your content on your site is.

You need to get the traffic up and get some good content on the site before worrying about advertising - if the site has good info in an in-demand niche, you'll get there.

Why advertising? Why not go with affiliate products or something like Google Adsense for a while?
