Marketing a Video site

Me and my friend started a funny video/image site,( www.cubiclesurfing.com ) and we are looking for creative ideas to get traffic to this site. It's only a week old but we are staying on top of the latest funny video's and images and looking to get a community of people to visit daily. Please give me your suggestions.

social bookmarking sites are great for sites like this

 

But what is the method with social bookmarking ? Should I post only my main site or post some articles also ? And it seems quite hard to be on the front page of digg or del.icio.us, if you still lack traffic . . .

 

i have a vidshare site, also. The best way to market the site is to give away something for free with the logo/url on it. It doesn't matter what it is. Then, submit to those freebies site that you're giving away something for free. They will pick up on it and BLAM! You're in business! I'm giving away tees and some more items for uploading. Try it out! It works!

 

I have a videoshare site (www.tumtube.com) also. and it is in market for 4months now and getting good ranking on alexa. but still i dont able to boost traffic as much as i wanted to do. I like dougeetx idea of starting some freebie stuff on site. it will definitely increase traffic.

Most video sharing sites have link exchange programs. Join them and you can see some traffic.

Also create a video with your mobile phone, add the url and post it to youtube, etc.

 

Any other ideas of what could be given for free on a site like this?

 

Marketing is the key of every business and though its the difficult part !

To market your site just get some SEO.
And some blog/forum posting, link exchange etc !

I'm not pro but I'd have though have links like "Share at facebook" etc would help.

And something like Youtube where it lets you embed the video in forums, other websites.

 

add a handfull of social bookmark icons under each video.. from my exp people do bookmark

go to www.linkdumps.com and submit to the funny/video dumps (some are actually very good traffic bringers) some just end up being porn spam dumps so i would stay away from those

 

Social bookmarking sites are good and also get some videos up on youtube and things alike.

 

Link exchanges and banner exchanges with both video sites and arcade sites work well... I mention arcades as a lot of arcade scripts these days come equipped to handle videos, leading to many sites featuring games and videos which in turn opens up the potential for "crossover" traffic.

As already mentioned, social bookmarking works well; and i'd definitely back up the poster above who recommended placing social bookmarking icons/links below each video; preferably ones which are coded to add the specific video URL rather than just your website URL.

Stick in things like codes that people can post on their myspace sites to prompt their visitors to check out your site, as well as such features as 'send to a friend' email forms.

Also try checking out link dumps specifically designed for gaming/video sites too, they can be good for a little extra traffic.

A lot of what works for arcades works for video sites too since many promotional tools/services are geared towards both - so digging up info on arcade promotion should give you a few pointers.

Whatever you do, though, remember that there will be a mass of similar sites to yours, so having unique content or anything else which visitors won't find splashed all over the internet should give your site a "stickability" factor which will not only help attract traffic, but keep them coming back too.

 

Probably..you should join some video sites traffic trade program..

In order o get traffic from them...register on their site and link them..

Make a widget for people to add to their pages.

Take some video, and your logo and url at beginning and end of video. Post it on youtube.

It is called viral marketing. If you are lucky, when a new video hit the internet, let say like saddam execution, grab it the fats as you can. Brand it, post it on youtube and similar site.

 

Aye widgets are simply awesome, if you create a widget that people can add to their pages you will get a bunch of traffic, if the widget is good looking or nifty in some way that is.
