Marketing a site is a super small niche!!!

I have been operating a website now for about 4 years and have recently decided it is time to push the website more. The niche I operate in is MICRO small. In the US there are only about 3-5 people with the sort of knowledge I have and really only 1 that rivals me. (not trying to brag, its not a big deal, I know a lot about something most don’t ever think or care about LOL).

Anyway, the website is http://www.TheShrimpFarm.com , it is dedicated to freshwater aquarium Dwarf Shrimp. It is authoritative on the subject. But there is another site that is winning the SERP battle because of its age and self reinforcing links.

Now my question is, with it being a micro niche (with #2 rankings I get less than 1000 unique visitors a month) what is there to do that could help get name recognition, help people recognize my site as the authority, and increase traffic slightly?

Also, any website reviews are welcome!

Hang out on Aquarium forums with invertabrate sections. Put hte link in your signature and help everyone out with their questions. You'll quickly become "That guy that knows alot about dwarf shrimp".

    rcj,
I have do that. I have submited about 10 or so already. But will continue to do so.

Digitized, I am a member of two of the bigger forums and contribute quite a bit. But it is a great idea, anyway.

I am looking for the more, I guess unorthadox ways. Not really Link building, but more brand building...
